Miracle : Dear to Me (Kiseki) The Story of Chen Yi and Eddie

Episode 2

Chen Yi will spend the next day searching for Eddie. Until he realizes that he is no longer there. He would then spend the next two years in a downward spiral. 

At first , he can't bring himself to visit Eddie in prison. Something tells him that Eddie will still want to see him.

 Before their 19 th and 22 nd birthdays. All he can think about is Eddie himself. He feels like he has to see him after avoiding him all this time. He's a coward. All this time he was afraid that Eddie would hate him and he didn't want to face it.

Just when he talks himself out of going , he returns to his room to sort out some thing and finds a box with four boxes of gifts inside. When he opens the smallest one on top , he realizes who they came from. 

He needs to see Eddie now.

Demand an explanation. If Eddie went to all the trouble to prepare the gifts , then...Well , that must mean something. Eddie isn't the type to do things like that just for the heck of it.

Chen Yi is relieved that Eddie agrees to see him. However it kills him taht he can't touch it. eddie is a abrupt as always and tells him to say whatever he needs to say and leave. Without even saying goodbye.

All Chen Yi can do is apologize. For all , years of neglect , waiting so long to meet him that drunken night. However , he odes not say everything that is in his heart. Just....

"Sorry for not coming earlier."

Chen Yi takes the birthday cake he brought out of the box , places it on the counter in front of him , and lights the candles. When he looks back at him , Eddie smiles. But this is not a smile of happiness.

It's. agrin of derision.

"You've got to be kidding me." 

Chen Yi picks up the phone again and wishes him the first Happy bIrthday , this was his first congratulation in five years.

"What are you doing?" 

Eddie asks , looking at the cake like it's the most ridiculous thing he's ever seen.

"We promised that we would celebrate our birthday together. This means that we are still alive."

Chen Yi hates that he took for granted all these years they spent together. He should cherish every day , because here he sits now and wishes that Eddie would be on the same side of the glass as him and blow out the candles.

Make silly wishes together and smear chocolate on each other's cheeks. But all these years he himself had broken his promise , and Eddie tried to remember this. Which brought him hellish pain in his heart.

"Come one." Eddie laughs. "We haven't celebrated a birthday together in four years. What happened to you? Did my time in prison bring back your memories?"

It hurts because yes , it is.

It took being away from him for Eddie to realize all the mistakes he had made. He will never want to do this again.

"I didn't keep my promise. I'm so , so sorry. Please forgive me."
"Promise? Why?"

At this moment , his memories of what Bai Zongyi told him when they first met came back to him

"You should be celebrating with the person you like anyway. Why are you wasting your time on me?"

Because he likes it. He likes him much more than he realizes until he wakes up alone that morning. But he can't say it. The only thing holding him back is the painful knowledge that Eddie hates him.

"You're done lighting the candles. I have to go." 

Eddie says and hang up. Chen Yi desperately tries to spend one more minute with him , to see if there is any forgiveness , any love left in his eyes.

He takes the dog tag he found just a few hours ago and presses it against the glass. Fortunately , this helped Eddie stop , sit up and answer the phone. Now he's more serious. Remembers how to pack each gift. He remembers the sadness of not being able to give them to CHen Yi. He should have thrown them away , as he did that first year.

First , a pocket knife with the characters for Chen Yi engraved on the handle. Secondly , a leather car key fob with the Cayenne Auto shop logo.  Thirdly , a token with the date of birthday 1998.2.5. Either way , he can't let his emotions show right now. Eddie fakes a smile again.

"I forgot about them. You can just throw them in the trash. They're useless."

Then , to do drive the knife deeper , he looks at Chen Yi and says.

"Don't ever come to me again."

Eddie can't stand it. Too much pain and stupid longing for someone whow ill never be his. If he never saw Chen Yi again , perhaps the pain would dull.

"It's all int he past."

Eddie hang up and leaves , missing the tears filling Chen Yi's eyes. Chen Yi watches him leave , dragging his heart behind him on a chain. Everything he's ever loved.

Then he vows to himself that if he ever gets a chance to make things right with Eddie , he will never let go of something so precious again. He's not the type to cry. I can't remember the last time he did this. But sitting on the other side of the cold window , he lets the tears flow.

he blow out the candles that have already melted over the cake and makes a stupid wish

"I want you here with me."

This is the first birthday they celebrate together in five years. 

That evening , Chen Yi did not go to the stupid dinner that the boss was preparing. After that he changes. Some say he became sullen. Well , more moody than usual. 

By the third year he comes to his senses again. He throws himself into his work like never before. It's a distraction. Anything to occupy his mind during the day and tire his body so that he passes out at night. And then there's a countdown until Eddie gets back to his side of the goal. But he couldn't.

He left them where they were , although he opened each box from time to time and carefully ran his fingers over the things he had prepared with such love , even if he was too blind to see it.

Now there was nothing more he could do , so Chen Yi waited again.
