Emperor Gerald was the last undisputed ruler of the Aldoria Empire, whose military exploits and careful stewardship of the Empire slowed the Imperial decline that peaked during the Battle of Pache. Elected by the Senate to succeed the unpopular Emperor vespus soon after the disastrous battle against the Battanian and Sturgian coalition, Gerald used the rift between the two tribes to end the war after a series of successful military campaigns as Emperor.
Prior to ascending to the Imperial title, he had a senatorial, competent and esteemed reputation - he served as one of Vespur's most trusted subordinates and commanders. Viewed as the savior of the Empire, a cult had begun to worship him as a partly divine ruler. Gerald was assassinated before naming his successor, which caused the Imperial fragmentation and Civil War between Fabien, Saul and Gwendolyn.
He was the husband of Gwendolyn, and the father of Ranni. Further, he was the leader of taira clan
Gerald supposedly leaned traditionalist before his ascendancy as Emperor, and was a loyal subordinate of Emperor Vespurs, favoring the laws of the Senate while also climbing high within the military. It can be assumed that he was everything that the three Imperial factions separately stand for - beloved by the soldiers for saving them after the battle of Pache, worshipped by the people and aristocracy for his competent and stable governance, and respected by the Senate for his conservative values and adherence to the law.
Gerald is broadly seen as the Empire's savior after vespus's folly-laden reign and was quickly nominated as vespus's successor, ascending as Emperor with the full support of the Empire.
The Empire finds itself in civil war after Emperor Gerald died without an heir.
