setup of the disaster(1)

Alex had had a dream of exploring the stars, from when he was a little boy. Sitting on a rusty and greasy windowsill on the FX12 32715, a freight ship operating in the Juno system. He had not expected to be smuggling weapons at 16, but that, he guessed, was normal. Alex had ran from home, when the war had started to tear planets and systems apart accross the galaxy.

"approaching Juno prime. 50 000 kilometers, T-minus 37 hours." the robotic voice of the ship announced on the intercom.

"hey, repair boy. Eat something and start moving the special cargo to somewhere out of sight." Jax, the quartermaster shouted.

"go fuck yourself, Jax" Alex muttered under his breath.

_____________.
The mess hall was largely empty, out of the ~250 crew members, only 7 were to be seen, including the cook.

Alex made his way to his 'boyfriend', Max. They had fallen for eachoter during the long hours spent in the abyss between worlds. Both had been recruited onto the ship at 14 years, All other crewmen & women were atleast 2 years older than they were. Max was not exactly what you would call a boyfriend, sometimes he was a she, and Alex's girlfriend. To outsiders they just seemed like good friends.

After completing the tasks at hand for their 12 hours, the "boys" went to the room they shared with teo others, who luckily had opposite hours of Alex and Max.

After a long session of making out, the two boys fell asleep to the slightly terrifying noises the starship made.

________________.
Being woken by their 'roommates' the lovers took separate showers, and started to work.

Alex had to crawl in the small spaces of the walls repairing electrical lines.

"this job sucks, it sucks deep." he complained to Jax.

"shut up, atleast you aren't crawling in sewage looking for the captains closet key. I had to do that." Jax replied

"i could suffocate here, or get electrocuted. And don't pretend like you did a second of work, ever" Alex yelled behind the plastoid panels.

"take that back, or i'll seal you in there" The quartermaster threatened.

"ok, chill, man, chill." Alex pleaded.

________.
Max had been serving lunch in the mess hall. It had been a nightmare, like the two weeks before she had done the same job.

Her flowing dark hair was greasy from the oily food. She looked more like a repair boy than Alex did.

"why is the toast burnt?" a crew-woman asked.

"it is what it is, everyone gets the same crap here" Max replied, bored out of her mind.

The crew-woman scoffed. Max flashed a rude hand gesture at her back.

"is dying an option? Seriously." she complained. The weeks of being confined in the same spaces had made her angry. The only good thing about being stuck on the vessel was Alex, Max's secret boyfriend, he may be cold and distant at times, but he could be warm and compassionate if you knew him good enough.

"yeah. if you kill yourself, do it somewhere where your corpse won't be in the way." the cook stated, handing her a pistol.

"actually?"

"yes, i wouldn't recommend that though, Jax will find a way to punish you for it"

Max decided that she wasn't going to suicide yet, but put the idea behind the ear. Plus Alex would get lonely. She cared about him too much to make him sad.

___________.
It was more silent than usual in the mess hall, a well liked doctor had been kiIled by a malfunctioning air lock. That wasn't unusual for FX12 32715, the starship was old, and beaten up.

"what should we do after the ship gets docked? Where would you want to go?" Alex asked, mouth half full.

"firstly, don't speak food in mouth. Secondly, i only care abou being with you, dear." Max responded.

"i would want to be a pirate, or something exciting, anything but a repair boy" Alex dreamed. Although he was intellegent, he was incredibly oblivious.

The ship announced the arrival to Juno prime, and everyone left for their quarters.
