"Hey, everybody!" Donghyuk grinned and waved at the blinking light signaling the camera was recording. "How are you doing?" He leaned forward, squinting at the comments.
"Me? I'm so tired," Donghyuk groaned playfully. "But it's fun to see you guys!" he added in English, fluffing his hair and meticulously fixing his bangs.
Today's live was scheduled to go for 45 minutes. iKON had been touring the US for their most recent comeback, and the company wanted the members to get in as much fan interaction as they could before the tour was over.
Donghyuk grabbed the camera, leaning back onto his bed. "Ah, its so soft." He squinted at the comments again.
"Where are the other members?" He read. "They're in their rooms and June-ah was supposed to go get us snacks from the convenience store..." DK stretched his neck to look towards the door of the hotel room he was sharing with Junhoe.
"Still not here... I'm so hungry," DK whined, and watched smiling as the hearts came in and the comments overflowed with aww, poor DKs and emojis of food. The truth was he had been feeling off all day - nausea, loss of appetite, muscle pains, fatigue, the works. Plus a pounding headache that didn't seem to let up. Not to be completely unexpected with the stress of the tour and the comeback, plus the time changes, but it felt worse than usual. All he could do was hope it wasn't anything more.
But the show must go on, and Donghyuck had to ignore the symptoms at least until the live was over. He kept joking around with fans, talking about fashion, the sights along their tour, and more until he was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. Donghyuck's face brightened at the sight of June in the doorway, snacks in arms.
"Look who got here!" DK turned the camera towards Junhoe, who smiled at the camera.
"Hello guys," Junhoe waved as he took his shoes off. He threw the bag of goodies at Donghyuck, who got started unloading them and showing them off to iKONics while June climbed on the bed.
The two men enjoyed each other's company while they snacked and entertained fans. DK could feel his composure slipping as his stomach began to cramp and roil. The snacks were definitely making it worse, but June had already made the mistake of revealing DK was not on a diet - meaning that in order to maintain the illusion of good health, he had to eat on camera.
"I'm so full!" DK exclaimed when he could take it no longer. He hadn't gotten far - he had eaten a few handfuls of chips and a little carton of juice, and although the fans didn't notice right away, June did.
"Ya, you didn't eat very much! Eat more." June pushed more snacks towards DK.
Donghyuk rubbed his stomach, which was just getting more and more upset as the minutes passed. "It must be too soon after the concert. I really can't eat more!"
June gave DK a discreet but concerned look and got nothing but a grin in return. But for the sake of the live, June let it slide.
"All right. Later." June relented. Donghyuk had a small moment of relief before it was washed away by a sudden wave of pain in his head, coupled with increasing nausea. Squeezing his eyes shut and swallowing hard, DK let out a shaky breath. He forced the pain and nausea down and painted a smile on his face. He had to get off camera soon, or he was going to puke live, for thousands of people - of fans - to see.
"June-ah you hold this." DK choked out in a semi-normal tone of voice and handed the camera to June. Donghyuk got off the bed, trying not to look like he was in a hurry, and started walking towards the bathroom, head down and a hand on his middle. His head was spinning but he forced himself to make his way towards that door.
