She pulled her hands away from Sabine's face, and the eye was no longer organic—her left eye was glass. Or was it crystal?
Suddenly, Sabine started seeing things. As she looked around, she felt the ground beneath her as if it pulsed with a subtle vibration that individualized the particles in each piece of the surrounding chamber. But that was not what captivated her. She saw where the dragon flew into the mountain and tried to trace it using her sight of the future, past, and present.
"Deep beneath the surface of the ice lands, a dragon was growing in size, its eyes ablaze with purple lightning and a fire so dark it seemed abysmal. The dragon's skin was shifting, rippling over its body—stone, then camouflaged, but only when it was alone. Sabine saw an army hidden below the mountains, deep beneath the lost cities.
"The corruption of the flame had, over time, become trapped in an in-between state. It was preparing for an eventual invasion of the surface. Its gaze spread corruption across the underworld, reaching many earthly and underground dwellings, civilizations like the Nomads and the Dewaphem. Those who dug deep into the endless dark were the first to be hunted. As they reached more secluded pockets, the darkness moved in to change them into its army.
"Most who were transformed fell completely under the new order's control. She watched time pass beneath the old ice lands of the south, observing as the dragon of the new order absorbed enough QSE essence to evolve. It had been cocooned for the past fifteen years. As she probed the present, she witnessed its awakening—into something terrifying.
"At first, she saw wings, but as they unfurled, a humanoid dragon emerged from the stone shell. Its yellowish-bronze eyes locked onto hers, and her heart fluttered, goosebumps crawling over her skin in fear.
"She tore herself away from the infinite gaze of the eye. Her friends caught her as she collapsed into Anmy's arms. They opened a portal back to the Monastery of Scimagi. Upon entering, they found the undercroft empty. Thank goodness.
"But when they got Sabine into her bed, the ghostly man asked, 'What happened?' His floating figure swayed back and forth like water in motion.
"'She said something about a New Order before passing out,' Andromeda explained, tucking Sabine in as she groaned.
"'Her eye turned into some kind of crystal,' Andromeda continued. 'Then she saw something that terrified her.'
"The pair watched as the ghostly man turned back to them and said, 'She has accomplished what no living person has—merged with the power of Omnialanri magic. They say that power was scattered across the realm, fragments of Alexander's own soul, and his armour was said to grant the wearer the ability to cleanse the corrupted light of the Chaos-Order flames. Four flames of the order once existed, long before the rise of the empires that faced the first order.'
"'The four flames have been lost since before the beginning of this realm, even before the formation of the sun. Some ancient texts mentioned them long ago before they decayed along with my body. I was studying them.'
'The First Flame—controlled them all.
The Second Flame—brings death.
The Third Flame—a heatless, invisible flame.
The Fourth—called the Final Flame, meant to harmonize the other three. But no one has seen them in over 100,000 years, nor is there any record of their whereabouts.'
The ghost of Alax Alanari was drifing in and out of reality. Fixated on the 4 flames. But as Sabine asked, "Do you know where the final Flame is?" The whites of his body appeared to shimmer and Glitch out of View.
