The continuous peeping of the alarm clock stirred her from a peaceful sleep. Irritated, she reached out and switched it off.
Rubbing her eyes and stifling a yawn, she grabbed her phone and glanced at the time through heavy lids. It was 5 a.m. Suddenly, a thought of Ayden crossed her mind, and a soft smile played on her lips. She rose from bed, slipped on her slippers, and made her way to the washroom.
After freshening up, she opened her closet, pulled out a tracksuit, dressed quickly, and headed downstairs.
In the living room, she spotted Zaenia, her mother, helping the servants clean up the decorations from yesterday’s party.
She walked over, wrapped her arms around her mother from behind, and whispered, “Good morning, Mama.”
Zaenia placed a hand gently on her cheek, her back still against Aeni’s front. “Good morning, my baby,” she said, making Aeni’s smile widen.
“Did you sleep well, Aeni?” Nisha asked.
“Mmm,” Aeni hummed in reply, nodding.
“Okay, Mama, I’m going for a jog. I’ll be back soon, okay?” Aeni said, nodding playfully like a child and giving two thumbs up in a whisper.
Her mother chuckled, mirroring her with a thumbs-up, “Okay.”
Giggling, Aeni stepped out for her jog.
Upon returning, she showered and had breakfast with her family.
Later, Aeni sat on her bed, a book in hand with a skull on the cover. She blushed as she read, lost in the story.
A soft tinkling from her phone broke her concentration. She set the book aside and picked up the device.
A message from Armaan lit the screen:
I'm sorry Aeni, I wanted to come to your party yesterday, but my girlfriend took me out on a date. She made such puppy eyes that I couldn't say no—you know how much I love her. Please forgive me 🥺. Also, today we’re having brunch—just you, me, and Ila at Indigo Café at 11 AM. Please come! 😜
Aeni rolled her eyes and sighed. She was still angry at Armaan for missing the special day but didn’t want to be a third wheel to him and his girlfriend.
Checking the time, it was already 10 a.m.
An hour later, Aeni stood outside her house, waiting for a cab. She wore a cute light pink frock with short cuff sleeves, the hem just above her knees.
Aeni preferred traveling by cab. She liked living like a normal person and hated unnecessarily troubling the drivers.
Her father constantly worried about her safety, but she did what she wanted.
The cab arrived, and she hopped in, giving the driver her destination.
Soon, the cab stopped, and she stepped into a cozy, small café.
She spotted her friends waving and smiled, waving back as she moved toward them.
She hugged Ila softly but ignored Armaan’s open arms, sitting beside Ila instead.
Armaan sighed, “I’m sorry, baba. How long are you going to stay mad?”
Aeni huffed but smiled, “Okay, okay. Now sit down.”
“Thank God you agreed,” Armaan said, smiling.
“Hmm… Actually, guys, I called you here to ask—why don’t we go on a trip somewhere? What do you think?” Armaan asked.
