The village was bustling as it always does around eight in the morning. Mitsuki waved her hand at her adoptive parent, Yuna, as they separated. Mitsuki was off again to gather spices and herbs in the forest, whereas Yuna was off to hunt meat, and gather fruits and vegetables.Yuna was a 50-year old woman, who was kind enough to take in Mitsuki. Mitsuki's parents were merchants who travel to faraway places. They couldn't bring Mitsuki back then because of the risk of exposing Mitsuki to unexpected dangers. Mitsuki was 2 years old when her parents decided to go back travelling to earn money, but not long after a year that they left, they faced unfortunate events that lead to their death.
Mitsuki didn't feel any grief or anger towards her real parents, as she understood just how much wealth there is to being a merchant. Mitsuki and Yuna could only sell what they could hunt and gather, and would use for their own consumption if some items were left unsold. Which is why Mitsuki understood the reason why her parents had to travel again, it was indeed difficult to live in a capitalist world, especially when the kingdom holding their village was hungry for gold.
It was around eleven in the morning when Mitsuki decided she had already gathered enough and went back to the village. The sun was nearing its peak, she was thankful for the abundance of trees in the forest she's in as it wasn't too hot. More luckily, Mitsuki saw Yuna not far away from her.
But apparently, luck runs out too, as Mitsuki happened to trip on a small protruding root from a tree. She dropped the basket she was carrying and sprained her left ankle. Mitsuki yelped in pain and Yuna heard this.
"Mitsuki!" Yuna ran to the injured girl and laid down the baskets she was carrying as she neared Mitsuki.
Mitsuki could only hiss in pain as Yuna tried to straighten both Mitsuki's legs. Yuna shook her head. "You have to rest for a few days. Don't worry, I'll not sell the ones you've gathered for our own consumption so that you won't have to go out for a while."
"Sorry..." Mitsuki sheepishly said, embarrassed to have Yuna work alone due to her clumsiness.
Yuna reassuringly smiled. "You don't have to apologize. Let's leave our baskets here for a while. I'll just ask our neighbors for help later after I settle you back at the cabin."
Yuna helped Mitsuki stand up on her uninjured feet. Yuna took Mitsuki's hand and wrapped her arm around Yuna's shoulders. After that, they both left, heading to the village at a slow pace.
They arrived at their cabin and Yuna laid Mitsuki down on her bed, and went away to get ice and bandage.
Mitsuki tried to move her left leg, in hopes that she may be able to walk just fine so that she wouldn't have to burden Yuna. But she could only let out a frustrated sigh as she only felt pain in it.
Yuna arrived back at Mitsuki's room and began wrapping the bandage around Mitsuki's left ankle.
"That should do." Yuna said and gave Mitsuki the ice. "There's an ice bucket down here if you need more ice." Yuna added.
