The moon cast an ethereal glow upon the desolate field, its silvery light reflecting the turmoil within Daniel.
He slumped against a weathered tree trunk, his fists clenched tight.Tears welled up in his eyes, blurring the image of the distant city lights.
"Why?" he choked out, his voice thick with emotion. "Why did I believe those lies? Why did I speak so poorly of my own mother?"
Lyra, ever the level-headed one, knelt beside him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, Daniel. We all believed the stories we were told. Jerald was a master manipulator."But her words seemed to have little effect. Daniel's fury boiled over. "Jerald! That snake! He stole my childhood, twisted my mother's love, and plunged this kingdom into chaos! I'll make him pay."
Kaleen, uncharacteristically subdued, sat beside him, her eyes filled with unshed tears. "But what of the Queen? We were so quick to judge, so blind to the pain she must have carried."
A wave of guilt washed over Daniel. He remembered the picture in the lockethis mother, her face brimming with love. Could he have ever truly believed she'd wish him harm?
Rebekah, ever the optimist, spoke softly. "She loved us, too. Remember how she trained us, treated us like her own daughters? Even though we weren't blood, she gave us a purpose, a family."Maria, usually the cynic, surprised them all. Her voice trembled as she spoke. "My parents died in the war. The Queen, she could have easily turned her back on orphans like us. But she didn't. She nurtured us, made us strong."
A poignant silence descended upon them. The stars above seemed to twinkle brighter, witnessing their shared grief and newfound understanding.
Daniel finally broke the silence, his voice thick with emotion. "She wasn't a monster. She was a woman, a mother, forced to make impossible choices. And we…" he choked back a sob, "we judged her without knowing the truth."Lyra squeezed his hand. "We can't change the past, Daniel. But we can learn from it. We can use this truth to set things right, to break the curse, and maybe, just maybe, heal the wounds that have festered for so long."
A wave of determination washed over Daniel. Tears still glistening in his eyes,
