Michael sat at the dining table, fiddling with a pen as he glanced over some papers from work. It was a quiet evening at home, and the scent of Melissa's cooking filled the condo. He felt a sense of contentment wash over him as he looked around their cozy living space. The walls were adorned with pictures from their wedding and their honeymoon, memories of the wonderful journey they had embarked on together.
Melissa walked into the room, carrying two steaming plates of pasta. "Dinner's ready," she announced with a smile, setting the plates down on the table.
"Smells amazing," Michael said, reaching for his fork. They shared a moment of comfortable silence as they began to eat, the clinking of utensils the only sound in the room.
After a few bites, Michael put down his fork and looked at Melissa. "Hey, I've been thinking," he began, his tone serious yet gentle.
Melissa looked up, curiosity in her eyes. "About what?"
"About our future," Michael said, pausing to gauge her reaction. "Specifically, about starting a family."
Melissa's eyes softened, and she set her fork down, giving him her full attention. "I've been thinking about that too," she admitted. "What are your thoughts?"
Michael took a deep breath. "I want to have kids, Melissa. I want to build a family with you. But I also know it's a big step, and it's something we need to be sure about."
Melissa nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I agree. It's something we both want, but we need to make sure we're ready for it. Emotionally, financially... in every way."
Michael reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "I know we'll make great parents, Melissa. You're amazing with people, and you have so much love to give."
She smiled, squeezing his hand. "And you'll be a wonderful dad, Michael. You have such a big heart, and you're always so caring and protective."
They continued to discuss their hopes and dreams for the future, talking about everything from names to the kind of home they wanted to create for their future children. The conversation was filled with warmth and excitement, and by the end of it, they both felt a renewed sense of purpose and connection.

At work the next day, Melissa made an effort to talk to her colleagues about their lives and families, subtly seeking advice and insight about parenthood. She approached Pam during lunch, the two of them sitting in the break room with their sandwiches.
"Hey, Pam," Melissa began, taking a bite of her sandwich. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," Pam replied, looking up from her phone. "What's on your mind?"
"Well, Michael and I have been talking about starting a family," Melissa said, her tone tentative. "And I was wondering if you had any advice. You and Jim seem to have a really great balance with Cece."
Pam's face lit up with a smile. "That's so exciting, Melissa! I think the most important thing is to communicate and support each other. It can be challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding."
Melissa nodded, absorbing Pam's words. "Thanks, Pam. That's really helpful. I guess I'm just a little nervous about the whole thing."
Pam reached over, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. "It's completely normal to feel that way. But you and Michael are great together. You'll figure it out."

Later in the day, Melissa found herself in a conversation with Phyllis, who had always been like a mother figure in the office. They were standing by the copier, waiting for their documents to print.
