A few weeks had passed since the whole ordeal with Minho, and Jisoo couldn't help but notice the growing warmth in her chest every time she was near Chaeyoung. The feelings she once had for her best friend were changing, deepening into something more.
One afternoon, as they sat together at the park, the sun beginning to set behind them, Jisoo fidgeted with the edge of her sweater. Chaeyoung was lying on the grass beside her, sketching in her notebook as they enjoyed the peaceful moment. Jisoo kept sneaking glances at her, heart pounding in her chest. She couldn't shake the overwhelming urge to say something, but the words were lodged in her throat. She was nervous—terrified, even—but this was Chaeyoung, the one person she could always talk to. She took a deep breath and tapped Chaeyoung's arm, her face turning serious. Chaeyoung looked up, smiling softly before setting her notebook aside. She sat up and gave Jisoo her full attention, her hands ready to sign.
Jisoo hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to begin, but she knew she had to be honest. "Chaeyoung," she began, signing as she spoke, "I need to tell you something. It's been on my mind for a while."
Chaeyoung tilted her head, her brow furrowing in curiosity. "What is it?" she signed back, looking genuinely concerned.
Jisoo swallowed hard, her hands shaking slightly as she continued. "You're my best friend. You always have been. But... recently, I've started to feel something different. Something more than friendship."
Chaeyoung blinked in surprise, her eyes widening a little, but she didn't interrupt. She watched Jisoo intently, waiting for her to continue.
Jisoo took another deep breath and forced herself to keep going. "I think... I like you. Not just as a friend, but as... more than that." She looked down at her hands, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I don't know if you feel the same way, and it's okay if you don't. I just had to tell you."
For a moment, there was silence. Jisoo's heart raced, her mind filling with doubt and fear. Maybe she shouldn't have said anything. Maybe she had just ruined everything.
But then, she felt a gentle touch on her hand. Jisoo looked up to see Chaeyoung smiling at her, her eyes soft and full of warmth. Slowly, Chaeyoung began to sign."I've always liked you, Jisoo. I just didn't know how to say it." She paused, her smile growing a little shy. "I'm glad you told me."
Jisoo blinked, her heart soaring with relief and joy. She hadn't expected this. She hadn't expected Chaeyoung to feel the same way. Holy hell, CHAEYOUNG FELT THE SAME WAY!
"You do?" Jisoo asked, her voice almost a whisper, as if she couldn't believe it.
Chaeyoung nodded and then signed, "I do. I've always thought you were special, Jisoo. More than just a friend."
Jisoo's face broke into a wide grin, her cheeks hurting from how hard she was smiling. She felt like she was floating, like everything in the world was finally falling into place. She reached for Chaeyoung's hand and held it gently, the two of them sitting there in the fading sunlight, their fingers intertwined. Neither of them said anything for a while, simply enjoying the quiet and the comfort of being together.
Finally, Jisoo spoke, her voice soft and full of happiness. "I don't know what the future holds, but I'm glad we're doing this together."
Chaeyoung squeezed her hand in response, her smile never fading. And in that moment, Jisoo knew that no matter what came next, as long as Chaeyoung was by her side, she would be okay.
