Saying I love you is overrated. People tend to abuse the said phrase nowadays. I love you is beautiful but it also hurts. The feeling of receiving the words uttered from your loved one's mouth is tremendous; it plants a seed of a beautiful flower that blossoms in your heart. But overtime, the flower grows thorns and it spikes you from the inside and your heart left with bruises and these become scars.

People say things they don't mean most of the time. Likewise, anyone can say I love you to you without meaning it. They can pretend to care when they actually don't. It's all just painful facades and yet most of us still fall for it. Is it because we are that naive or do we just subconsciously suppress the doubt because we want to explore the feeling of being given attention and validation from a man? Are we that desperate for this kind of treatment? People go to great lengths to fill in their hollow ego and cover it up for the desire to gain notice from the crowd not knowing they're in for a ride of fake smiles and pleasantries.

Saying I love you is so easy to say but do difficult to prove, hard to do. The words are empty when not internalized. You see, LOVE itself is contradictory. It's complex, it doesn't even have its own original definition. Anyone can be smart, kind, pretty, handsome, cool, and funny and in a way these are all superficial but you can't love anyone who are like this. You can cherish anyone but who does this 'love' you have pertain to? Who are you going to give your love to? Affection can be given to anyone you deem to be your 'ideal' partner, the one that fits your checklist of standards but love itself is broad and unclear.

Saying I LOVE you means you love someone for their physical or emotional characteristics that you adore and that's normal but why emphasize LOVE? Love fades. It's a feeling that come and go. It is artificial without loyalty attached to it. So why not, I love YOU instead?

Why not emphasize, YOU - The person you LOVE because that's the one you want to share the strong feeling of affection. That's what your love pertains to. That's who you want to share this intense feeling with. Sometimes, love doesn't need a logical or scientific explanation. The scientific explanation is love is just the attachment you have to the person which may stem from mere empathy but that's just not it. Sometimes, love doesn't need a reason. Feeling it just feels like magic. SOMETIMES you don't even know if you love someone because you don't know how it feels. The feeling of love isn't about love itself. It's more than that. It's about the person you share it with.

It's not about how they feel about you. It's about what they don't feel for anyone but you.

When you start putting more emphasis to the person you love in the relationship rather than just the feeling of love itself, it changes the whole perspective and level of affection for one another. They can be as smart, kind, pretty, handsome, cool, and funny but are they you? They're not YOU. They can never be you. I love YOU means that person loves you and NO ONE ELSE, the phrase says it all. I love YOU, meaning they can't love anyone else. You are their smart, kind, pretty, handsome, cool, and funny person. You're their one and only special person. This becomes an eye-opener in the relationship. Let your worth be known through the corrected phrase 'I love YOU'.

I love YOU gives comfort and it's so reassuring that even a lost soul who doesn't know their place in the world still feels whole. That's what true love is.
