Episode 3

PAST 

Eddie promised himself. Even though he had tried for four years to forget this man , to accept that their paths would never cross , that whatever thread connected them , he still couldn't say no when Chen Yi asked him for help. It was actually quite embarrassing how quickly he agreed.

"Okay..." Eddie said like fool , his heart squeezing so hard it was hard to breathe.
"I'll contact you." The boss promised while bleeding. 
"Find the best right hands." He said half jokingly.
"So that they can die for you when you are in danger."

Because he failed in this position. bEcause he couldn't bear for Chen Yi to get hurt , injured. It was the only thing he feared even more than being close to this man , after everything he had done. And despite the fact that he was the one who harmed Chen Yi for years ago.

THE PRESENT.

And yet , and yet. Chen Yi did not push him away , but instead pulled him closer. Too close , in fact , causing Eddie's brain to freeze , reboot , and come up with a thousand forbidden scenarios he'd never thought of before or dared to before.

Eddie told him that he could find out more about him. Distract him and be useful in the only way available to him. This is the only way his own rules and the universe should allow him. 

What he found made him freeze , every alarm bell going off in his body.

"Crap."

On the outskirts , it might seem simple , barely worth even getting involved with the last remaining members of the Fan family , who had already been sent away. 

Eddie even wondered if Chen Yi had exaggerated the threat , because i f he knew the true extent , he would not have time to clam conversations and half attempts at flirting. 

Of course , this could all be a mistake , a terrible misunderstanding , but once Eddie was able to discern the connection between the Fan family and his own group member Chen Yi , he couldn't seem to stop finding more and more and even more.

If he was right , and every nerve in his body was screaming about it , then Chen Yi was not just in a little danger. If so ,then it was a miracle that Chen Yi was still alive.

Eddie was sure that this could only mean one thing , someone inside had spoken. And Eddie's sacrifice , besides protecting Bai Zong Yi , was in vain.

Despite all the efforts , Chen Yi had never left Fang's list , and right before everyone's eyes , they had already infiltrated his inner circle.

Why didn't anyone see this? Why didn't anyone understand? Eddie couldn't be the first to notice , could he? Or was he wrong ? Reading all the signs in the worst possible way?

He swallowed , looking at his notes , at the connections he had made.

"Fuck."

Eddie muttered again , too dazed with fear to give it any heat.

"Fuck."

Eddie only found out he was going to be shot when his legs stopped working. He had already fallen to the ground , but when he tried to get up and move to kill the bastard who dared to shoot Chen Yi , he couldn't as stupid as it may sound , he couldn't

Fuck!

"Chen Yi!"

Eddie was confused , which was probably why he grabbed Chen Yi from behind.

"Hurry."

Eddie urged , shouting , muttering , still trying to turn and stand , move , just move.

"The shooter...Hurry up , he will try to kill you , you must hurry , Chen Yi!"

It was in vain , his feet seemed glued to the ground and his arm was too heavy to lift. At least Chen Yi was still lying on top of Eddie providing some sort of shield. ANd he hoped that one of their gang was still loyal to him , ready to kill the shooter , protect his boss , his friend , his brother , his...

"Chen Yi...."

Frantic hands began to shake him , or maybe he was already shaking , the cold creeping in as he looked at Eddie's panicked expression. He wanted to scream at this man , wanted to tell him not to worry , not to worry about him. However , all he could utter was strange noise that even he himself could not understand.

"Eddie...De...."

Ha , Eddie didn't want to smile ,even if his cheeks were frozen in time. So he really was dying , wasn't he?

He had to know that he was the one who could die for Eddie , for the man he had sworn his life for since they met. It shouldn't have come as a surprise , but as he lay there looking at Eddie as if he could protect him from more bullets , he was still overwhelmed by the realization.

Perhaps , he thought , and wished he could raise his hand enough to touch Eddie's cheek one last time.

Perhaps he was always destined to live his life for Chen Yi , and end it for him , but why did he make this choice. The one he loves.

Chen Yi , why you?

With the corners of his vision already blurred , Eddie's face remained centered , always in focus. Something inexpressible was happening behind those familiar eyes , in those quiet cries that Eddie made

"Will this be enough?"

Chen wanted to ask , although he promised never to ask for forgiveness , since he still didn't deserve it.

"Did i do a good job? You've always protected me , now it's my duty to save you."

And as the darkness swallowed him whole , he felt nothing but cold seeping into his bones. There was no regret , no fear only hope that he had done his duty and given Eddie some more time on this earth. A bit more

Perhaps every choice he made led to this moment. May be...
