[It's Friday]
I walk around the city, still having to process that her funeral is tomorrow, when I get a call. It's Jules. I pick up.Hey Jess.
Hello hello.
Have you seen Chase?
No. Why?
Well I tried to call him, but he doesn't pick up.
It's his day off today.
Yeah I know, but don't you think it's a bit odd he doesn't pick up?
Well yes, but what do you want to do about it?
Meet me at my place, and we'll go together to his apartment.
Sure I guess.
See ya!
Byee.I turn around, and walk towards Jules's apartment. I knock on the door, and she opens it immediately. "Let's go." She says, grabbing my arm.
We walk for about 7 minutes, when we arrive at his apartment. She knocks on his door, but we get no reaction. She knocks again. Still no reaction. "Chase, open the door buddy." I say, knocking on the door again. No response again. Then I remember he once told me about the spare key underneath the doormat. "Wait." I say, lifting the doormat. There's the key. I put the key in the lock, and open the door.
"Chase?" Jules looks around. "You check the bedroom, I check the livingroom." I say to her. She walks towards one of the doors and opens it, while I walk straight ahead towards the livingroom. I look around, and notice that Max, his dog, isn't here, and neither is Daisy. "Chase? This isn't funny." I say, walking further, towards the kitchen and towards the dining table, when I see it. Easily over 20 pieces of paper are spread out over the table. They're smaller than A4's, but it's still a miracle how he fit all of that on the table.
I walk even closer, and pick one up. It reads Dear Hoppo. I immediately drop it again. No... no this couldn't be happening. "Jules!" I scream as loud as I can. She comes sprinting towards me, and looks at the pieces of paper. "No..." She whispers. "Did he..?" She asks, her voice shaking. I shrug, and try to hold back the tears. "I have to look for the one with my name on it." I say, while searching for it. And there it is. I pick it up, and read it carefully.
Hey Jesse!
I'm sorry for being such an asshole to you. I thought you liked Moana, and because you two were so close, I was scared that she'd choose you over me. But now that I've come to think about it, that would've been so much better. She wouldn't have gotten on the water so carelessly, because I know that you would treat her way better than I would. I can't bare the loss of her, and that's why I've decided to join her in heaven. You were the best friend I could've ever imagined having, so I'm asking you to take care of Jules, because she's going to be very upset when she finds out. Live your life to the fullest, and never look back at this.
I'm waiting for you on the other side buddy,
Chase.I can't hold my tears anymore, they're streaming down my face. Jules hugs me tight and I hug her back even tighter. "How could this happen? He was always so happy." I say sobbing. She stays silent, and shrugs. She can't hold back her tears either. "I don't know..."
She picks up her letter and starts reading it out loud.
"Heya Jules!
Thank you for being always by my side, helping me with everything. All the adventures together, all the rescues and jokes, I wouldn't have so much fun without you. Unfortunately this is goodbye. I want you to be happy and look back at our adventures with a smile. I know I promised you to stay alive, but life is just not for me. I'll be waiting for you with the biggest smile on my face, but until then I want you to be happy and have 0 regrets. Don't forget me, but also don't think about me too much.
Chase
Ps: I know you have a crush on Jesse, and he has a crush on you too, so I hope you two get together someday."
