"Tu bharkha meri
Mai Tera, kajal Piya"As I stood there, my mom's voice cut through my thoughts. "Why this girl?" she asked, referring to Shrushti.
I sighed, knowing I had to explain once again. "Mom, I want to marry Shrushti and you know the real reason" I said, though deep down, I knew the truth was far from it. I hadn't even seen this girl before, let alone fallen in love with her. In reality, I don't believe in love.
To me, love is just attachment. We spend so much time with someone that we get used to them, and people mistake that for love. The truth is, her father forced me into this marriage. Or you could say I'm doing it to pay off some interest.
I know nothing about Shrushti, except for her name. I don't even have a picture of her. I don't know what she looks like or what kind of person she is. It's all a mystery to me.
My mom brought me back to the present, repeating the same question. "Why this girl?"
I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "Mom, it's complicated. Her father pressured me into this. It's more of a business deal than a marriage. I don't know anything about her, not even what she looks like."
She looked at me, her eyes filled with concern. "Vedansh, marriage is a lifelong commitment. Are you sure about this?"
I nodded, though doubt lingered in my mind. "I have no choice, Mom. This is something I have to do."
Only my mom knows that Shrushti's father is forcing me into this marriage, but she only knows half the truth. I told her I'm doing all this for our business, to protect and grow it. The real reason, my darkest sins that led to this marriage, are still hidden from her. I can't ever tell her.
If she knew what happened back in Germany, it would break her. Those memories haunt me every night, bringing nightmares that won't let me rest. The things I did, the mistakes I made, they're a constant weight on my shoulders. This marriage is my way of trying to pay for those sins, a price I have to pay in silence.
