DAD WAS MAKING YET another one of his announcements. "Given recent events, some students have expressed concern that I am not allowing you to have a say in the decisions that affect your future. And I agree. If you are expected to abide by this school's policies, it's only fair that you have a voice in how those rules are made. So, I am forming an honor council. One vampire, one witch, and one werewolf, each elected by their peers. Along with our school counselor Emma, whose vote will represent the younger students. Now, I have to go off-campus. In the meantime, I expect you to make good decisions and to vote wisely. That's all. You're dismissed."
The second he walked away, the room filled with indistinct chatter and laughter from the students. I thought the council was honestly a good idea. It never made any sense to me to have a human running a school of supernatural students. It made more sense when Mom ran the school alongside him, but now that she's gone, it was just... odd. Even Emma would be better as the headmistress, because at least she was a witch.
I had Eve for today, since Emma was occupied. I was grateful for the extra time with her today. I miss her so much when I'm in classes all day. She grows so much everyday, and while that amazes me, it also scares me a lot. I felt like time was moving too fast for me to comprehend it.
Today, Hope was conducting various tests to see if Landon was supernatural in any way, that way it could be decided whether or not he would get to stay at the Salvatore School. I thought he was plain human. There was nothing about him that suggested otherwise. He got hurt like a human, could die like a human, had no extra abilities. The only weird thing was the fact that he couldn't be compelled. But I know that some humans, in very, very rare cases, can build up resistance to compulsion. Maybe that was also inherited. Maybe whoever Landon's biological parents were, were extremely anti-vampire. Who knows.
I was in Lizzie and Josie's room with Eve, since Lizzie was planning on running for the witch representative on the honor council. She wanted our advice on outfits. She had a white suit of sorts on that I hated.
"Josie, focus," she demanded, as Josie was distracted, looking down at one of Lizzie's flyers. With a wave of her hand, she changed the color of the suit to a purplish-blue color in the mirror. "None of this is working."
"You know, you're not gonna lose the election over an outfit," Josie mentioned.
"I'm not worried about losing the election," Lizzie replied. "I'm worried about what I'm going to wear to my victory rally. The outfit makes the speech." With another swipe of her hand, the suit was now pink in the reflection.
"That's pretty, Liz," I told her. The pink looked best on her, and it made the suit actually look decent.
Josie seemed to disagree. "Maybe you should wear something that shows your fellow witches you're gonna take this seriously. It's a big responsibility."
I didn't want to say anything– because I didn't want to hurt Lizzie– but I agreed with Josie. Lizzie already had so much going on, I wasn't sure if representing all of the witches would be good for her. It would be a heavy weight on her shoulders, a lot of pressure to live up to. People would be relying on her to make the right decisions for them. I didn't think Lizzie was right for that. If anything, Josie fit the bill better. But I knew she would never run against Lizzie.
"That is why I am perfect for the job," Lizzie said, walking up to Josie. She sat down on the storage piece in front of the bed. "I'm a tastemaker. An influencer. People don't really know what they want until I tell them that they want it. They need me."
Josie only nodded slowly, opting not to say anything to not upset Lizzie.
A little later, after another outfit change, she worked on rehearing her speech for after she won. "This is such an honor. It's so nice to know that you all love me as much as I thought you did."
