"Alright boys, wrap it up for today!" Coach Ukai called to his team. The boys stopped their practice game and filed off the court, eager to change out of their sweaty clothes and get some rest.
They all trickled into the club room, where they changed out of their practice clothes. Crouching in front of his bag, Hinata picked up his cell phone and checked the screen for any new notifications.
1 missed call
Curiously, Hinata opened his phone to see who had phoned him. With a small smile, he rose and clicked on the call button. He placed a hand on his hip and faced the wall as the phone rang. It only rang once.
" Shoooooyoooo," whined the voice on the other end.
"What is it, Natsu?" Hinata replied. Kageyama looked over, wondering what he was talking about. He then realized his friend was on the phone and got back to packing his bag, although he stayed close out of curiosity.
" Are you coming home soon? What's for dinner?"
Crap, Hinata thought, lowering his phone to check the time before raising it to his ear again. His mother was at work for the evening, so that meant he was in charge of dinner for the night. This happened frequently enough to where his culinary skills had sharpened over the years. With Natsu's help, the pair experimented with different recipes and arranged a broad menu suitable for their tastes.
"I'm sorry, I'll be home in a bit. What do you want tonight?" Sitting on the ground, Hinata began untying his shoelaces with his free hand. He glanced up and saw Kageyama and Sugawara looking down at him. Sugawara continued his conversation with Asahi in a lower tone when he realized that Hinata was on the phone. Asahi also glanced at him, as well as some of his other teammates. Hinata wasn't the type to be on his phone much, so they figured it was somewhat important.
" Mmmmmmmm.... I'm not sure."
"Well, what are you in the mood for? Any idea?" The boy slipped his regular shoes on and packed the others into his bag. He then spun around and rested his back against the wall as he waited for his sister's reply.
"Not stew, we had that last night. How about soba?"
"It depends on what kind. Mom wants us to be a little more strict with groceries this week."
Mom? Asahi mouthed to Suga. A lot of Hinata's teammates didn't realize that he had a sister since it was never mentioned. Suga shrugged and kept an open ear. He wasn't much of an eavesdropper, but he liked Hinata and wanted to know more about his life outside of volleyball.
"Cold?"
"Cold sounds good. I can pick the stuff up on the way home."
"Okay! Hurry up, I'm hungryyy!" Natsu whined again.
"Not with that attitude, you piggy." Hinata smiled, predicting her reaction
"SHOYOOOOO." Hinata gasped quietly and held out the phone at arm's length as Natsu started yelling childish insults. Some heads turned at the nice and he simply smiled back at them.
"Keep whining like that and I'm never letting you meet my friends."
The girl stopped immediately, then yelled again with enthusiasm, " ARE YOU BRINGING PEOPLE OVER? COME ON I WANT TO MEET THEM-"
"Okay, stop yelling Naachan!" Hinata whispered sharply. He helped himself to his feet and placed his hand on his hip again. "And no, not tonight."
"Please? I want to meet your friends. You never bring them over."
