With a fortnight of training and gear paid for by the king and queen, our young knight set out on his first mission: find a missing piece of equipment lost on a road to the castle. At dusk, the brave knight set down, he made a fire and bed for the night. Our young knight was just about to go to sleep when he heard a bush rustle nearby. He drew his sword with caution. A small deer-like creature stepped out of the bush. Relieved, the knight sets his sword down and asks the creature what it was doing up so late. The animal responded
"I am lost, I am looking for my herd."
"You can talk?!" The knight shrieked.
"Would you help me, Mister?" The animal asked kindly.
The knight stuttered "S-sure, of course."
The animal cheered "Yay!".
The two decided which place they would check first: the kingdoms forest. With just a torch and their declining wits about them, they find a clue on one of the outside trees.
"They were definitely here." The knight pondered.
The animal starts to tear up.
"Where could they have gone?" The animal asks.
"I think they went to the water to get a drink." The knight announced. "There is some fur on this tree and it looks like they are walking east."
The two set off for the nearest pond. Slowly getting slower and more tired as the night sky rotates. The earth now cold the two reach the lake around midnight. They see a disturbing sight. The other deer were mauled and eaten. The little deer cried for his herd.
"What could do this?" The animal exclaimed.
"I'm so sor-" the knight was cut off by a deep growling. It was the monster that ate the herd. A tall dark dog-like wolf creature slowly walked closer to the two. Terrified the little animal ran for cover. The knight fought as awake and alert as possible, hyped up on adrenaline the monster and knight exchanged slashes.
"This isn't worth it." The monster muttered under its breath. The monster tried running to the bush it stepped out from, but the knight had a throwing knife that landed in the back of the monsters head as it was running away. The monster dropped dead and the monster was used for food. The small animal thought it had no home or family left.
"Could I join you on your quest, Mister?" The deer wept.
"Of course, but don't you wonna see if there are any survivors?" The knight suggested.
"We can." The animal said as it wiped away its tears. After an hour of searching and waiting two animals came to see what stunk. It was the little animals parents! Reunited the animals thanked the knight and left. The little animal didn't wonna go at first, but the knight thought it best the deer keep with its kind. Dawn was right around the corner, and the mission was almost finished as the object was found. But as the knight set out for the castle he visited the lake. Sat near the water, the bushes behind him rattled as he was staring into the water. The knight drew his sword again. the little animal popped out.
"My parents are gonna find another herd." The deer explained. "We have found another herd to the south."
"So why are you here?" The knight questioned the animal, while putting away the sword.
"I've decided I wonna stay with you. If that's okay." The animal declared.
"Well, if that's what you wonna do." The knight accepted. And the two were off to the castle as new best friends to go on more epic adventures. The end.
