'Yahaan kho bhi jaau toh mai,
Kya kasoor hai mera?'
'Life does not feel like life, anymore'
Aarohi groaned, as she put her head on her sister's lap. That was when she finally moaned in relief. She was a neurologist, and these internship days seemed so tough. And when she, finally rested her head on her sister's lap all she felt was relief.
'Aaru...aaj, Aaj I tried to..tried to sing' Akshara hesitated, but let the words fall free from her mouth.
They were not the teens Akshara and Aarohi, anymore. They were the adult ones, Akshara Goenka aged 24 and Aarohi Goenka aged 23. Exactly, a decade back their parents had died. After a few days of their death, Naitik Singhania, their maternal grandfather breathed his last.
'Kya! Sach mei..Akshii?' The tired Aarohi, screamed in happiness and hugged Akshara.
'Haa. I tried to. Par nahi kar payi'
'Woh matter nahi karta! The fact, that you tried. That you picked up the guitar after years is the best news' Aarohi said, while Akshara shook her head and sadly smiled.
'Isliye treat toh banta hai' The sisters broke the hug and looked at their elder brother, Kairav Goenka. A calm and mature man. After their parents's demise, the siblings were only ray of hope left for each other. Kartik and Naira's last belongings.
Kairav had a tray of chocolate and vanilla icecream. The sisters smiled, and picked up their favourite.
'Mumma agar hoti toh...kitna daant-ti na humme, kehti ki Aarohi ab tum khud ek doctor ho ab toh sudhar jaa mera padhaku keeda, ya phir wahi naam...'
'Chotu Mendhak' Akshara said, looking lost in her own thoughts. The mere mention of Kartik or Naira, their broken promise, dead bodies were enough to haunt her. And their mention by Aarohi, someone who had blamed her of their death only triggered her anxieties.
She hated seeing anyone sad, especially Aarohi. Because if she ever saw someone's dull face, her brain would register the day when her broken family was scattered in the hall. Aarohi was between the dead bodies. Kairav clinging onto Krish's hold. Akshara's almost suicide. The US trip. death.
'Akshu, phir se woh sab mat soch na baccha' Akshara looked at Kairav, with tears in her eyes. Kartik and Naira's death had changed him. The Kairav, who had an idgaf attitude was now a man whose priority was his family, more importantly his sisters. He never had spare time for himself.
'Pighal rahi hai' Akshara's trance broke and both Kairav and her looked at Aarohi.
'Ice cream pighal rahi hai, Akshu!'
Aarohi said, turning her head to another direction and quickly wiped her tears while Kairav held her hand. Kartik and Naira's return could fix everything. Their broken souls, their family's depressed smiles.
Most importantly,
Akshara and Aarohi.
