" Granny , I don't think this is what Uncle D and Uncle Spencer think I should be doing while suspended from school," Luci Moore said as she reclined back on a luxurious feeling plush chair while a small Korean woman massaged and painted her toenails bright red. Her grandmother Jenessa was in the next chair , looking contented as another similar Korean woman painted her own toenails a dusky pink. She held five month old Miracle in her lap and cooed to her.
" Nonsense. There's no reason for you to be all alone in the house with DuBuis working and the others at school. " Like you should be were her unspoken words to Luci. Luci knew her fighting in school, for any reason, was not acceptable to her family especially her grandmother who for all her new trendy ways could still be old fashioned. " I think we should get Miracle her first pedicure," Jenessa said merrily to the child she held. " Wouldn't that be nice , Miracle, a pretty little pink on your pretty little toes ? Yes it would. Yes it would. "
" I could have gone to the hospital with Uncle Spencer and Uncle Nigel. Be there for Poppy Andrew and Uncle Alfred. It's funny that he's Uncle Alfred outside school and Mr. Giadello in school. I'm not a baby like Miracle after all. "
Jenessa cut her eyes from her baby granddaughter over to her teenaged granddaughter. " Your uncles didn't feel it would be a good environment for you really. I agree. Besides Glory will be fine. We all just need to be positive and keep faith in the Lord above. Doing a ..... vigil watch at the hospital isn't necessary. I really don't think Glory herself would want any of that. Although what she needs is us after our little salon experience going to the grocery store for food to fix them. She won't be up for cooking tonight. Not after all this. And I seriously doubt Andrew can cook. I think a nice hearty stew would be good. What do you think? "
Luci thought she would rather be at the hospital with her uncles and grandfather. But the pedicure did feel nice, she mused as she closed her eyes and listened to the Korean ladies chattering softly to each other as well as her grandmother cooing once more to her little foster sister.
She felt oddly guilty being content and happy while Glory was being operated on. But maybe that was part of staying positive for her. Maybe.
