Zodiac Academy

Chapter 1

I look up at the castle. I feel a shiver down my spine as I inspect the ancient walls. I bump into someone in front of me in the line.

"Back off, bitch," a maroon haired girl turned around and said and looked back at the line.

"Sorry," I mumble.

I look at the other 11 lines.

Oh right I didn't introduce myself. This is me, Jakaylamae (Ju-Kay-Lu-May) but I go by Jakayla. Im 13. I'm plain. I'm nobody. I'm a Scorpio.

I look up at the ancient castle again.
The scorpio line begins to move and I follow. Nobody says a word. The only sounds I hear are the Feram birds squawking and the footsteps of other 13 year olds leading into the castle. I don't have enough time to look at anything.

"All scorpios follow me please," a man hollers. He has platinum blonde hair and cold grey eyes.

I follow my line and a few thousand steps later there is a big door with a sign that says "water signs".  I realize there are other 2 zodiacs following which are probably Cancer and Pisces. The man opens the  door and there are 3 other smaller doors labeled, "Scorpio, Pisces, and Cancer". The man leads us into the Scorpio door and I see the other signs going into the other doors. Once I enter, I see a big stone room. With a fire that was deep red and no other color and maroon armchairs.

"My name is Mr. Yeulen and I am head of Scorpio," the man says. "I will be handing out pets shortly after everyone is settled into their dormitories. You will have 10 minutes to unpack."

He left the room and people started whispering and headed to a poster with names. I walked over and read.

Dorm 1: Genavila and Yandero

Dorm 2: Tanashia and Kayxeen

Dorm 3: Ren and Falcovon

Dorm 4: Jakaylamae and Kai

Dorm 5: Fendha and Parumand

Kai...who was Kai? I looked around the room as if someone had "Kai" printed on their face. I then walked to a door that said "dorm 4". I took a deep breath and entered. There on one of 2 beds sat a girl with jet black hair and bright blue eyes. She looked up from her book.
It looked like she had been crying.

"Hi, are you Jakaylamae?" She said, her voice surprisingly steady and she looking back down at her book.

Wow, she said my name right.

"Oh um yes but please just call me Jakayla," I said nervously laughing. "And uh you're Kai, right?"
She nodded, her eyes still on the book.                    Kai

I nodded and then sat on the other bed. It was surprisingly comfortable. I took off my bag and unpacked. I didn't have much. Just books, some clothes and my beautiful guitar.

"And um you're a Scorpio, right?" I said and immediately regretted it. Of course she was a Scorpio.

"What do you think?" She snapped her eyes still on the book.

I gave another nervous laugh and when she didn't return it, I started organizing my clothes who were as boring as my personality.

From outside the room, I heard Mr. Yeulen. I got up and headed out the door and a few seconds later my Kai was behind me.

"I will be handing out pets now," Mr. Yeulen exclaimed.

He opened a big chest he had brought with him.

"Genavila" he called.

A short girl with blonde curls and green eyes went up to him and I smiled at how much Genavila looked like Sademara. I felt Kai shift uncomfortablely behind me.

Mr. Yeulen handed her a dark red bat and a peice of paper that was titled "Feram bats."
"Oh my god it's so cute!" She exclaimed and hopped back into the crowd as people pet her bat.

He then called out 7 more people. I realized that all of their pets were shades of dark red or maroon.

"Ja uh how do I pronounce this um."
" that's me," I said stepping out of the crowd. "But please just call me Jakayla."

He took out a beautiful maroon snake and its red eyes pierced into mine. He then handed me a paper title "Feram blood vipers."

"Thank you."
