THIRD PERSON POV
as they entered inside the café, aera's eyes brightened at the sight of her favourite lemon tart displayed in the glass made box by the counter.
"hello! what would you guys like to get?" the barista asked, her voice cheerful.
"i'll get a chocolate pudding and lemon tart, with a vanilla latte." aera smiled at the barista before looking at sunghoon and raising an eyebrow at him, "what about you?"
"tiramisu and coffee milk." sunghoon looked at the barista as she nodded at them.
"will you eat it here?" she asked as aera replied with a soft 'yeah'. "coming right up! please choose a table."
with that, they chose a table by the corner and took their seats.
"isn't this café so pretty?" i love how they have plants and a small waterfall in the corner." aera spoke with a soft smile.
"yeah. it's your favourite café, right?" sunghoon asked.
"mhm. i love it so much. it kind of reminds me of the garden of the prince's palace in cinderella. the one released in twenty fifteen is so good i swear." aera said grinning.
their pastries and beverages had arrived, aera's eyes twinkling at the sight. she had loved sour food since she was a kid. she liked to eat sour candies and drank lemon juice without any grain of sugar. and so, lemon tart quickly made it's way to her heart once she had tasted it. puddings were the only sweet food she liked, and any food having vanilla flavor was her thing.
"to be honest... the story plot of cinderella is kind of... way too imaginative and unreal." sunghoon said as he took a sip of his coffee milk.
"sunghoon, can you just... stop acting like a robot for once? this isn't business dealings which would need extreme precision or absolute practicality. plus that's the reason why it's a disney movie and not a crime thriller that starts with a 'based on a true story' you know?" aera rolled her eyes before continuing, "i love the message it has."
"of course you do. you're like her anyways." sunghoon said as he sighed. "that's what i'm scared about, aera. the real world, that we live in, is not so kind and sweet like you, and neither am i. though being optimistic is a good trait, it also pushes people back way too much when the problem strikes."
"sunghoon, first of all, stop being so emo." aera said as she grumbled at him. "secondly, the world is as we see it. we create the world. i'll make you see it in a better light, i promise. there is so much more to life than we derive." aera softly smiled at him, her eyes holding the depth of the promise she made, before she started grinning, "now, no more being so sentimental, i might start crying if we hold up this therapy session for another five minutes."
sunghoon couldn't help but let out a chuckle at how the girl was determined to stand her ground, no matter what. it was something most people didn't do with him, including his parents, considering his severe anger issues that everyone including aera knew about. his psychiatrist that his family had consulted when he was a kid to find a solution to the said problem, had advised not to provoke or pressurize him when he experienced an episode of his anger issues. his anger coping mechanisms were also quite different. while others liked to ignore others or maybe even scream at them, sunghoon only resorted to physical violence against the other person or himself. he became controlling, violent and extremely sensitive.
his anger issues sometimes made others, including his family, treat him differently. he had been to therapy as well. his parents were cautious around him, with their words and actions. they had seen an episode of his anger issues twice, both being not so pleasant. he had seen the looks in their eyes, they were scared. scared of their very child. his anger issues weren't voluntary, they were caused due to the loneliness he experienced in his childhood that also refrained him from opening up to people. no one but minju had a somewhat idea about the reason after sunghoon confirmed her guess from his actions. sunghoon knew he wouldn't hurt them, no matter what. but maybe the fact that his own parents couldn't believe so, had created a scar deep in his heart.
sunghoon had felt the different treatment towards him. he wanted to be normal too. he didn't want to suddenly stop talking to aera after he was diagnosed with anger issues and had to think about her safety with him.
aera was someone kind and sunshiney, and he was afraid that after discovering his severe anger issues and closed off nature, she wouldn't be able to tolerate and thereby become traumatized, just like every other person in his life.
and so, he separated himself from the people he loved. he knew communication worked two ways. if he closed his end, the other one would soon be closed too.
after all, how long will a person try?
