BEING THE CHOSEN ONE IS SOMETHING ANAKIN OFTEN BRAGGED ABOUT. But he was reckless and irresponsible⎯ That wasn't someone the order wanted to save them in the end. So, as a way to maybe he'll learn some sort of responsibility; they made Anakin Skywalker the Senator for the Jedi.
Were they crazy for that decision? Yes. but did the order not have much of a choice when it came to the Jedi Knight? No.
So, Anakin was made Senator of the Republic and the Jedi, speaking for them in meetings and other things. This made Anakin proud of himself because he was the first ever Jedi to be a senator, and he didn't have to follow the rules since they didn't count for him anymore. so, the Jedi knight openly dated Padme Amidala with no repercussions.
