Hey slayers, I hope you enjoy this chapter. It's mostly Sumire and Sarada being comforting besties while Sarada misses Boruto. But yeah, so enjoy!
IMPORTANT NOTE: I just want your opinion, don't Sakura and Sarada relate so much to Gilmore Girls? Like they are SO besties. The manga should have given us more mother-daughter moments
The night was still, the kind of quiet that made every small sound seem louder than it should be. The summer air drifted in through the open window, warm but tinged with a slight breeze. Outside, the full moon hung in the sky, its light spilling into the room, casting a soft, silvery glow on everything it touched. The stars were scattered like diamonds across the sky, unobstructed by clouds, making the night feel almost too perfect, too serene—an eerie contrast to the turmoil brewing inside Sarada's mind.
She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling as Boruto's words relayed by Eida echoed in her mind: "Tell her I'll be back for sure. So she doesn't need to worry about a thing." The promise felt heavy, lingering like a weight on her chest. It was hard to believe that just three months ago, she and Boruto were arguing about trivial things—who was the better fighter, whose strategy would win in a mission. It felt like those days were part of another life, a life where everything was normal.
Now, everything was different. Boruto was gone, forced into hiding because of lies and accusations that painted him as the enemy. Sarada could feel the sting of tears building up, and one slipped down her cheek before she could stop it. She wiped it away quickly, not wanting to let herself get too emotional. Vulnerability wasn't something she liked showing, not even to herself. But she couldn't help it—where was he? Why hadn't he come back to see her, even for a moment?
She sighed, her heart heavy with worry and frustration. "That idiot," she muttered, trying to shake off the feelings that were pulling her down.
"Sarada, I'm home!" Sakura's voice echoed through the house as she walked in, her usual energy filling the space.
"Welcome home," Sarada muttered under her breath, her mind still heavy with thoughts of Boruto.
Sakura placed her things on the table, letting out a sigh. "We had so many people in today! It was insane. It felt like half the village decided to come in pretending to be sick! We were so understaffed," she continued, her voice a mix of exhaustion and disbelief.
She headed toward Sarada's room, holding a bag filled with mochi, her excitement evident. Sarada noticed the bag but felt too weighed down by her emotions to respond.
"I bought some mochi for our movie night tonight!" Sakura announced, trying to lift the mood.
"Ok," Sarada replied, her voice lacking its usual enthusiasm
Sakura's frown deepened as she noticed Sarada's lackluster response. Usually, the mention of mochi would bring a spark of joy to her daughter's eyes, but not today. Concerned, she set the bag down gently on the floor and walked over to Sarada's bed. Seeing her daughter curled up with her head buried in her knees, Sakura's heart ached.
She sat down beside Sarada, wrapping one arm around her and pulling her into a tight embrace. Sarada looked up, her eyes red and puffy from holding back tears.
Sakura tried to comfort her, but her words only made the pain worse. "If this is about Sasuke running away with Boruto, I get it. I'm sad too... but we need to move on. We can't keep our focus on a traitor who—"
Before she could finish, Sarada snapped, her voice trembling with a mix of frustration and anger. "He's not a traitor! Do you all not get it?! Boruto is the son of Lord Seventh!"
