Dear Diary,

I'm Holly. I don't exactly know why I'm telling you this, because you're just a diary. You're practically non-existent. But I've always dreamed of having a diary just like Anne Frank, and talking to it about my everyday life just like she did. So I'm going to start by telling you a bit about myself.

So I was born on the 7th of August 2010, meaning I just turned 14 two days ago. I was adopted when I was born because my parents died in a car crash, and so my new parents, Tiffany and Ben, adopted me. Two years later Tiff gave birth to my new adoptive brother Charlie, who's 12. Charlie and I each have two pets each, a rabbit and a chicken for each of us. Charlie has a white rabbit called Snowball (like the one in The Secret Life of Pets franchise) and a black chicken called HeiHei (like the one in Moana, because that's secretly his favourite Disney movie and he's secretly in love with Moana). My chicken is brown and called Dolly and my rabbit is grey and called Clover (like the one in Sofia the First, because that was my favourite show growing up). As you can see, Charlie and I like naming our pets after TV shows haha.

We live in Darwin, which is in the Northern Territory in Australia. I love it here. Everyone is so nice and I think the only real danger here is crocodiles and cyclones. The last cyclone spared our house thankfully, and we just had to do some renovations to fix it up. Other people weren't so lucky though.

My two best friends are Chloe and Annie. Chloe was born somewhere in America and moved here in year 2, which is when I became friends with her. I've been friends with Annie since we were both in kindy, and she's aboriginal, so her family has been here for a really long time. I love when she tells me Dreamtime stories and shows me places that are really important to her people. I respect her and she's such a lovely person.

Anyway, enough about that. I wanted a diary so I could record my everyday experiences, so that's what I'm gonna do.

Today was kind of boring. I had the day off school because I threw up yesterday. There's a possibility it was my birthday cake. The local bakery doesn't have the greatest reputation, and I think next time I'll make the cake myself. I haven't thrown up today and I feel better, so maybe I'll be ok tomorrow to hang out with Chloe and Annie. We're planning to go to Fannie Bay beach for a swim, even though it's winter and it's probably gonna be FREEZING. But I just checked the weather app and it's supposed to be around 30 degrees tomorrow, so we'll be fine.

So tonight, just as I was putting my dish in the dishwasher, my mum asked me to run outside and get the mail. I did, and it was bloody cold. Which is weird for Darwin in August. I got the mail and I came back inside and I saw a letter addressed to me. I never get mail. And also, it was from people that I don't know, and my mum didn't know who they were either. So we threw it in the bin.

I don't really care much about it, but my mum seemed a little worried. I'm kind of surprised she threw it in the bin instead of opening to find out what it said, because I can't deny it, she's pretty nosy.

Anyway, it's getting late and I'm really tired. And if I want to feel good to go to the beach, I need a good night's sleep. Bye diary!

(yeah I know how cringey that is :/)
