Chapter Twenty-four: "Boyfriend."

2012.

Young teens who were the polar opposites; who could barely stand each other. That was how Mark and Haechan had met all those years ago.

2023.

Eleven years later, the change was barely believable.

From mutual dislike, to tolerance to a love-hate relationship, their friendship had been constantly evolving that they reached a point where one of them could not exist without the other.

They had become best friends. They self-proclaimed themselves as soulmates. They were each other's pillar to lean on and they supported each other with all their heart.

Haechan had always gazed at Mark with admiration. Mark held pride in his eyes when he looked at Haechan.

Back then they did not know they'd come this far. Mark never thought he'd get along with the boy who annoyed him to death, and Haechan had never expected Mark to warm up to him as much as he had.

But now they kissed.

Mark's lips had captured Haechan's in a slow but affirmative manner.

Haechan felt like everything had fallen into place, as though it was what they had been working towards all those years.

Was Mark his destiny?

When they broke apart, Haechan was breathless. He took a few breaths to replenish the oxygen that Mark had sucked out of him.

"This was not how I planned this to go."

Those were Mark's first words when they calmed down.

Haechan's head whipped up to look at the slightly taller man. He felt fear and disappointment replace the content he was feeling.

"What?"

Mark let out a chuckle. "Give me a minute."

Haechan watched wordlessly as Mark foraged through his bag and got out a velvet box.

"You're not proposing are you?"

The words stumbled out before Haechan could stop it and he slapped a hand to his own mouth, horrified at himself.

Mark burst out laughing. "Easy, princess. One step at a time."

Haechan turned red in embarrassment.

Mark's laugh subsided as he placed the box in Haechan's hand.

"I was planning to bring you out today. I thought we could go to your favourite Karaoke place," Mark told him, "but it didn't pan out so well."

Of course. First the Dreamies had brought up game night and then Haechan went all emotional on him.

"I thought we were going to talk," Haechan asked. "But you were going to bring me out to sing?"

"I wanted it to be special so I could give you this and ask you to be my boyfriend," Mark revealed, pointing to the box he had given Haechan.
