Exactly how long is forever? A question that may never have its answer. That most certainly was the answer for Alarice. It was all so overwhelming. Fresh air. The suns beaming rays. The scent of wild flowers. Never did she dream of what it felt like to touch the sky once more.
Centuries have gone by, but it still wasn't forever. Although its been so long, she still hasn't forgotten how he looked like. He was her everything. Yet, why did she resent him so much? He had promised to come back for her, but he never did. No one said he wasn't ever going to come back. It just felt as if he was never coming back. It felt as if he had forgotten her. Did he ever really break his promise or not? Today she would get her answer.
A taxi stops on the side of the road. A young woman with black sleek, straight hair stares out of the window from the back passenger seat.
"This can't be it." she says.
An older looking man turns back and with an apologetic smile, he responds with a heavy english accent,
"Oh. I'm sorry miss, but my old girl here just can't go through dirt roads like she used to."
The older man points to an unmaintained dirt road right off the main road. Pointing the young woman to her destination he says,
"Keep going on that road there and it should get you to where you need to."
The young woman nods in appreciation. She hands the taxi driver money and says,
"Please, keep the change."
Bewildered, the man hands back the money and exclaims,
"Miss, I can't accept this."
Grabbing her luggage and finally stepping out of the cab, she responds,
"Please, accept it and take care."
Before the older man could object any further, the young woman shuts the door. Facing the dirt path, she says to herself,
"This rundown road is going to lead me to you."
The young woman didn't know if the road was just endless or if she was just anxious. Just the fact that she would be face to face with him once more was overwhelming. Unfortunately, it was just as depressing. This would only be a short visit. A visit with an objective to retrieve information. It was for a good cause. If everything goes according to plan, they will never have to be separated ever again.
At the end of the road, lies an old cottage. It may appear inhabitable, but she knew very well that is where he is. She knows that he damned himself to an eternal servitude. She doesn't care, it doesn't make him any less of the being she cares for.
The wood from the porch beneath her feet creaks as she heads for the main entrance. Without hesitation, she firmly knocks twice. Lifting her hand to knock once more, the door gracefully opens. The door reveals a tall slender man. Hair dark as night. Eyes red as blood. Skin as if it were porcelain. The attire of butler seemed so strange upon the young woman's eyes.
With a heart felt smile, the young woman says,
"Hello there Sebastain."
His blood red eyes widen in shock.
"Alarice." Sebastain says.
