Misaki's Pov

"Pay attention!" my father exclaimed as he elbowed me in the gut. I groan and held onto his arm to steady myself. He pulled away soon after, and I placed my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.

"Your form isn't bad, but your reaction time is too slow, Misa. I have to go, but make sure to review and practice what you learned today." I nodded and glanced up at him. His blue eyes were filled with remorse, and his lip trembled slightly. Before I could say a word, he turned away and walked off into the woods of the training grounds.

It has been a week since my father began training me to control the clan's kekkei genkai, the Shi no Me. Apparently, I have awakened the first form, which allows the user to see opponent's future movements and predict the outcome of their attacks, which proved useful during the Land of mission.

However, I am unable to use it for extended periods due to my lack of clan knowledge and combat forms. I suppose if my father and I had not been separated for so long, I would have mastered it by now. Groaning in annoyance, I stood up and stretched my sore muscles.

I took a deep breath as I started walking towards my apartment. On the way back, couldn't help but think about the look on my father's face; he seemed as if he was about to cry. I sighed, realizing how much harder I need to work to get him out of that dreadful house.

After a refreshing shower and a light lunch, I sat on my bed, reviewing a scroll the Hokage had given me to master chakra control. Although I was already familiar with the content, I couldn't help but think that my inability to use the Shi no Me was related to my lack of balance.

With a groan of frustration, I closed the scroll and placed it on my nightstand. Flopping backward and pinching the bridge of my nose in exasperation, I glanced at the wall where my blue clock hung, noting that it was only two in the afternoon.

'Lord Third should be having lunch at this time... he can give me some advice,' I thought. I sat up, pushing away some hair that had fallen into my face, before walking to the door to grab my white jacket and put on my shoes.

Haruto's pov

"You seem quite tired, Haruto," the Third Hokage observed. I sighed and lowered my head slightly as I organized the papers before me. "I didn't get much sleep last night; I was reviewing the papers of each examinee and their matchups," I responded, although it wasn't entirely true. In reality, it was also because I was training Misaki. I didn't think it would be this hard to get her to unlock the clan's kekkei genkai, though it's only been a week since we started.

Throughout the time I spent watching over Misaki, this encounter marks the first time in six years that I've seen her up close and had the opportunity to speak with her. I've missed so much of her life; she has grown more mature. She has lost her smile, and the spark in her eyes is long gone.

"Tell, Haruto... what are your thoughts on Misaki? She is my protégée, and with your lineage in her genes, do you not agree she has the potential to become a remarkable Kunoichi?" Lord Third inquired. However, before I could respond, he continued, "I'm pleased that Kanna had connections to your clan and succeeded in securing not just you, the leader, but also the future heiress of the Fujioka clan," he remarked, grinning broadly while puffing on his pipe, the smoke wafting towards me

Bowing my head and gritting my teeth, I was by for this country and the man who had torn my family apart. Now, I was left uncertain if my wife and son were even alive. "Pity we didn't capture the son; he'd surely be more powerful than Misaki, and more compliant," he mused. As he continued, I couldn't help but growl, lifting my gaze to glare at him with all the loathing I possessed, which only prompted a chuckle from him.

"You and I both know if my child weren't involved, I would've defeated you long ago," I warned, as the room grew cold. "Perhaps... but since she is involved, I suggest you play along or you know the consequences," he smirked, raising an eyebrow at me, causing me to clench my fists.

It was not long before I sensed a familiar presence, which was far from pleasant. Shortly after, there a knock on the door, and the Hokage told the visitor to enter. The door opened and my eyes widened in shock; it was Misaki and Kanna. The expression on Misaki's face was unsettling—her eyes were wide, not with surprise, but with anger I noticed she was trembling.

"I told you, he was keeping secrets from you. But you were too foolish to hold on to the false hope that he genuinely wanted to build a connection with daughter," Kanna laughed at Misaki. My heart sank as she stared at me with absolute betrayal before she turned towards Lord Third, glaring at him with hatred.

"I should known not to put too much faith in a stranger, regardless of his status, to help me out of my situation. And I should have killed this bitch last week when I had the chance." The Hokage sighed as he grabbed his pipe and blew more smoke.

"Listen kid, I only did what I had to for my village. You wouldn't understand at your age-"

"Nah I understand that you're a power hungry bastard, along with this bitch next to me." Misaki snarled.

"Oi! Watch it, you brat!" Kanna snapped, turning around and reaching out to grab Misaki, only to receive a slap across the face. "Don't touch me," Misaki growled, stomping out of the room.

"Misaki, wait!" I called out, running past the two people in the room. Descending down the stairs of the tower, glimpsing the back of Misaki's head. I called out to her again, and she stopped. As I reached her side, she lowered her head, trembling. "Misaki... I wanted to tell you, I really did, but I was worried you weren't ready to hear the truth—" She lifted her head, and my heart sank. Her eyes were completely white with a black X in the middle. Tears of what I could only assume were frustration streamed down her face.

"No, you could have but you didn't. This is the first time in six years we have been in contact, you knew that old man's intentions with me were to use me as a tool. You knew that Kanna forced us here, and knew that I was suffering..."

"Misaki I-"

"No! You lied to me and kept this from me! You're just like the of them!" she exclaimed before brushing past me. I could only sigh because I knew she was right; I had lied to her. I have to find a way to get us out of here before late.
