"What's happening?" Wonwoo asked, exiting with Mingyu, leaving a clueless Inha behind in her room.
"Please brace yourself because you won't like what I am going to say" Mingyu said. There was something uneasy about the whole thing and it bothered Wonwoo.
"Tell me," Wonwoo replied.
"Your father was stabbed," Mingyu said, trying to convey the message in a calm manner given the seriousness of the incident that happened to Wonwoo's dad.
"What?" Wonwoo asked him, unable to believe what he just heard.
"He was stabbed, hyung." Mingyu said, now getting the courage to meet Wonwoo's eyes. "He met with Inha's father for some drinks and when they came out, he was stabbed"
"Where is he... right now?" Wonwoo stammered after the realization sunk in.
"They brought him here and he is in surgery right now. Your mom and brother are outside the operation room" he said and Wonwoo started running and took off like a crazy man. He reached the operation room only to find his mother and brother huddled together, shedding endless tears. On the other side he saw a haggard looking Kang Haram, Inha's father with his head slumped over in defeat. Wonwoo noticed his shirt soaked in blood and realized that it could be his father's.
"Eomma" Wonwoo called out, his voice trembling which made his mom and brother look up. Wonwoo noticed how tired and bloodshot his mom's eyes were and that she looked as if she aged. His brother came running towards him and hugged him tightly.
"Hyung..." Hyunwoo sniffled upon seeing his older brother and did not let him go. Wonwoo patted him on the back and tried to comfort him as their mother looked over her two sadly as she prayed for her husband's life.
"Is Appa still in surgery?" Wonwoo asked his brother who finally let go of the hug. Hyunwoo wiped his tears and nodded his head.
"He's lost a lot of blood" his mom managed to say and Wonwoo went over to her and sat next to her. He took his mother's hand in his and squeezed it comfortingly. "Thankfully Haram-ssi called for the emergency services and they arrived quickly" she added, regarding the stabbing incident.
"How is Inha?" She asked her son. "And the twins? Did you see them?" She added. Even though she was sad, she remembered to check in on her daughter-in-law.
"She is fine. The twins are in the NICU for observation. I saw them from afar as they are still in the incubators." He said, giving her a faint smile.
"I remember how small you were when you were born. And now I cannot believe that my own son has not one but two babies of his own" She smiled back at him as he held his cheek tenderly and placed a kiss on his forehead, proof of a mother's love. Wonwoo at that moment, couldn't help but shed a tear upon seeing the act of affection. He might be a man now, with problems of his own but at the end of the day he was still his mom's baby and that reassured him to tackle the impending issues that faced him and his family.
"You should visit Inha," he said. "She's been waiting for you"
"I'll.." Wonwoo's mother faltered a bit. "Once your dad comes out, I'll come visit her," she said. "Now go talk to your Father-in-law. He had been looking like this since we came her" she said and Wonwoo nodded his head and went over to his father-in-law and crouched down before him.
"Abeo-nim" Wonwoo called out, trying to get hold of his attention.
"Aah, Jeon Seobang..." he said, coming out of his trance, just realizing that his son-in-law was in the waiting room. He immediately burst into tears.
"I am sorry, I am very sorry" he kept on apologizing to Wonwoo. "It's all my fault. If only I didn't insist on meeting with your father...." he faltered, breaking down before Wonwoo
"Abeo-nim" Wonwoo said, engulfing him in a hug. "It's not your fault," he said, comforting him.
"I don't know how I am going to face my daughter for putting your father in danger," Haram said from Wonwoo's shoulders.
"She's waiting for you," Wonwoo said, talking about Inha. "It's going to be fine Abeo-nim. Please don't say what happened was your fault." He said, looking at him.
"I'll never forgive myself if anything happens to your dad" Haram said and Wonwoo looked glum. "He's still in surgery, I think he'll be fine. My dad is a strong man. I am sure he'll pull through" he said and just then two doctors came out through the sliding door to say that Wonwoo's father's surgery was successful. His mom let out a pained cry and thanked all the Gods for saving her husband.
Wonwoo then stuck around with his family for a while. He saw a man coming to his father-in-law with a change of clothes and urged him to change. Wonwoo recognised him as Seo Jeha, the new President of Haram's company.
"You should meet Inha and you can't go like this uncle," he said. He was neatly dressed but had a very serious expression on his face. Once Haram changed into new clothes he left to meet his daughter and Jeha approached Wonwoo.
"You must be Inha's husband. My name is Seo Jeha. I am Inha's cousin. Nice to meet you." He introduced himself.
"Jeon Wonwoo. Nice to meet you too" Wonwoo said and shook his hands.
"Jeon Wonwoo-ssi, Can I have a word with you regarding the incident that wounded your father?" He asked
"Ne hoejangnim. Let's sit somewhere" Wonwoo said and both of them sat in the hospital waiting area.
"I am sorry that this happened to your father. But as we found out, apparently the attack was supposed to be against my uncle. But the assailant got confused and stabbed the wrong man" Jeha said, which was news to Wonwoo.
"I thought my dad was attacked because of my marriage news," Wonwoo said, surprised.
"No. This was done against my uncle. We are trying to find out who is behind the attacker. But he is not talking yet. However I have my guess against Inha's step-mother." Jeha said
"But why would she pay someone to kill her own husband?" Wonwoo asked.
"Uncle sent her the divorce notice. We expected a backlash but I didn't expect her to do something like this" Jeha said, rubbing his temple. And then he stood up in front of Wonwoo.
"Again we are extremely sorry that your father was caught up in this crossfire" he said and bowed deeply to Wonwoo.
"Is there a way to take her down?" Wonwoo asked him with a resolve.
"You want to join us?" Jeha asked, surprised.
"That lady had hurt my Inha so much and now because of her actions my father was hurt too. Obviously I want in with whatever you are planning to take her down" he said which alarmed Jeha as he saw a murderous glint in Wonwoo's eyes.
"As of now we have handed over the assailant to the police but we are looking into her deeds in the company. The intel you gathered regarding her shares really helped us in setting the plan in motion, but we need more time and evidence to stack a case against her from which she cannot escape." Jeha said and Wonwoo nodded his head.
"If you need any help, I'll be there hoejangnim. You just have to call me" Wonwoo said. "I'll take my leave then, my wife is waiting for me" Wonwoo said and walked away while Jeha looked at his retreating figure in amazement.
"She really married a good guy" he muttered under his breath regarding Inha.
