Chapter 2: A Night to Remember
Anouf Ell Marcus stepped into the grand ballroom, her emerald green gown shimmering in the light of the crystal chandeliers. The mansion was abuzz with the city's elite, all gathered for the annual Van Jr. charity gala. Elode's eyes scanned the room, her journalist's instincts on high alert.
That's when she saw him - Canberg Van Jr., standing by the fireplace, his piercing blue eyes surveying the room like a king. Their gazes met, and for a moment, the crowd melted away.
Elode felt a shiver run down her spine as Canberg's eyes locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. She couldn't look away, transfixed by the intensity of his gaze.
Canberg, too, was taken aback. Who was this stunning woman, her green eyes sparkling like diamonds in the light? He couldn't help but be drawn to her, his curiosity piqued.
As the music swelled, Canberg excused himself from his guests and made his way through the crowd, his eyes never leaving Elode's face. She, too, moved towards him, her heart pounding in her chest.
They met in the middle of the room, the noise and chaos fading into the background. For a moment, they just stood there, the air thick with tension.
"Elode Ell Marcus," Canberg said, his voice low and smooth. "I've heard a lot about you."
Elode smiled, her voice barely above a whisper. "Canberg Van Jr. I've heard a lot about you too."
Their eyes held, the connection between them palpable. It was as if the entire room had melted away, leaving only the two of them, suspended in time.
And then, the moment was gone, shattered by the sound of shattering glass and the murmur of the crowd. But the spark between them remained, a spark that would ignite a fire that would change their lives forever.
