Oscar's POV:
"Right, we've just got this video left to do today and then you're free from our PR prison." Lando laughed at her joke, I just smiled. Another member of the team came in holding two bowls of a white substance. She placed one in front of each of us. Lando eyed it suspiciously, I just sat back and waited to be told what to do. The same team member came in moments later, holding glass bowls precariously. They were filled with all sorts of things, foam balls, glitter some weird powder thing. She came back several more times, holding bottles of food colouring and tubes of other things.
"You're making slime!" She said, placing the last things down on the table.
"Oh cool," I said. Whilst I'd never made it myself, my sisters had certainly gone through their slime phase and one Christmas there was so much slime in the house it had been impossible to avoid. I quite liked it. There was a bunch of different types but my favourites were the ones with things inside: I looked at the foam balls again.
"Mhm." Lando grumbled, leaning back in his car and placing both hands on his cap.
"Few ground rules, don't throw it at each other, don't get it on your clothes or in your hair and don't eat it."
"Why would we eat it?!" Lando groaned.
"Never know with you two."
"Whatever." Lando said, evidently still quite nervous. I wondered what wrong, he normally liked sensory stuff like this. We both did.
"The glue and activator is in the bowl already. So mix it, add in colours and other stuff and then when it stops sticking to everything you can get it out of the bowl and play with it."
"Sounds good," I said, still quite excited about doing it. If I was getting paid to sit around and play, I was quite happy.
"I don't know if I want to do it." Lando said to me quietly. The team were still setting up cameras after one had overheated.
"Why not?" I whispered back.
"It's going to be sticky, I don't like how it feels."
"You could mix it with a spoon?"
"Mhm maybe."
"Just ask!"
"I don't want to!" He looked at me, puppy eyes fully in use.
"Uh hey, do you think we could get a spoon to mix it with."
"Ah, just use your hands."
"Can we have it just in case we don't like how it feels." I asked, not using eye contact and not masking my voice as much as possible. Sometimes giving people physical reminders that we were in fact neurodivergent, made them realise we needed things. It worked and we were both immediately presented with wooden mixing spoons. Lando perked up again, peering at all the different add ins.
Lando's POV:
Thanks to the spoon that Oscar had managed to get me, I was now sort of okay with doing this slime thing. We joked about me not liking certain textures and made a fish joke here and there so it felt less awkward.
"Hang on, what colour are you using?" Oscar asked, looking over at me.
"I don't know, I kind of just squirted a bunch in."
"You idiot!"
"What?" I asked, genuinely confused as I continued mixing my slime.
"It's going to turn out all brown." Oscar laughed and instead of feeling insulted, I laughed too, thinking about what we could make it look like when it was done.
"Can you pour in those ball things?"
"These ones?" I replied picking up a small bowl of foam balls.
"Uh no yea, thank. Can you chuck them all in and since your hands are clean and mine definitely aren't right now. And can you squirt a bunch of the orange colouring in?" Oscar's fingers twitched and fidgeted in the bowl. He'd been pretty excited for this the moment they explained what we were doing. He loves sensory stuff like this, like touching things that feel weird. I like sensory things like moving around a lot. We're just a bit different in that regard.
"Thanks." He said, mixing everything in with his hands, his tongue stuck out as he concentrated. I was happy, he was happy. It was nice. The PR team told us we did need to actually explain what we were doing.
"Oh yea, so I'm going to put a bunch of glitter in, I think." I grabbed the two available bowls of glitter and dumped them both in.
"Great, so now it'll look like a glittery shit!" Oscar said with glee.
"Yea well your's is just going to look like, like, like-" Oscar laughed as I struggled.
"A what?" He said, still screeching with laughter.
"I foamy orange or something." We both laughed and soon went back to intently mixing our slimes.
Once done mixing, Oscar picked his up, playing with it in his hands. I could see him trying not to stim when all the foam balls crunched and popped as he moved the slime. I stared down at my brown, glittery mess, still in the bowl. I really didn't want to pick it up.
"Why don't you give it a go Lando?" Jon said. He'd just arrived in the room which meant I was probably late for a warm up for something but he didn't seem to pressure me to leave so I stayed seated.
"Nah I don't like how it feels." I said sadly, feeling like I was missing out but only really not wanting to do it.
"Can I?" He offered and I immediately dived out of my chair to allow him to sit down.
He rolled up his sleeves, taking off his watch before addressing the camera, "hey, I'm Jon, Lando's performance engineer. He doesn't like the way this feels so I'm going to give it a go instead." He paused and looked down at the monstrosity in the bowl, "any reason you went for brown and glitter?" He asked laughing.
"Don't even!" Oscar said, still messing around with his slime. I groaned.
"It's pretty Lando don't worry. It's like a unicorn poo or something." I giggled at Jon's joke as he struggled to get it out of the bowl. "Oh it feels weird, can see why you didn't like it!"
"What do you mean?" Oscar piped up, "it's awesome!"
After much convincing, Jon managed to get me to put my pointer finger in the slime. I immediately recoiled, feeling sick. One of the team members got me a wipe but I couldn't get rid of the feeling no matter how hard I wiped.
"Wait wait, before we end the video." Oscar said, finally putting down his slime. "I want to try Lando's."
I'd moved off camera this point, stimming away horrible feelings and getting worried looks from Jon who was failing to keep himself calm on camera. Oscar lengthened the slime out before twisting it round itself making a perfect poo shape.
"Looks great Oscar," someone said from behind a camera. They were taking pictures with the flash on, it was horrible. I pulled on my fringe a bit, moving my hands to my cap to stop me from hurting myself. "Lando? Can we just get a picture of you with your slime, then we need a thumbnail and an outro."
Oscar looked up from his slime which he was itching to play with again, his face saddened as he realised I was overwhelmed. "I'll do the outro," he said, offering a calm smile like he always did and it helped me feel a bit grounded.
A/n Hey! Been an f1 fan for a little bit now and as an autistic one at that, I feel like we're missing some good quality neurodivergent stories. Not abandoning my other story (for anyone who read it) but there's also a story centred around these two realising they are neurodivergent coming up. I'm just getting things setting up with it.
Also, getting an Ao3 account so this and that story will be posted there soon.
Thanks for reading! Part 2 is also out!
