CHAPTER 1:
ADRIENNE'S POV
Going to sleep at night is the most easiest part of someone's day...well, most of people's easiest part. Mine certainly wasn't.
My easy part of the day was...believe it or not, but doing homework. That is the easiest part of my day. Why? Because I don't have the best dreams. I don't have the best life.
My parents gave me up at the age of twelve. I was only twelve, and they couldn't handle me. I don't blame them, I couldn't handle myself either. You would be so, very, disappointed in me if you knew what kind of thought went through my mind on the scariest nights.
Nobody took me. They all thought I was too old for them. I stayed in that center for five years, until they wouldn't let me stay longer.
I lived on my own, with no one, but my friend, who is now the best, Hailey. She was in that center with me, she stayed in that center since birth. Nobody took her in, either. And surprisingly, nobody knows why.
After being let go from the adoption center, we got ourselves a job and stayed at a cottage. An abandoned cottage. It was the only place where we could have stayed, with no money, no time, nothing on our hands. About 6 months later, we had enough money to buy ourselves a house. Well, an apartment.
Hailey and I still have that cottage, but it's under construction. You wouldn't believe how much of a great job I got and what the promotion Hailey got. We were able to re-build the cottage into a big, lovely home. We sold it for nearly a million and bought a condo.
Hailey and I made a promise that we would stick by each other, all the time.
Now, being 20 years old, I have my responsibilities. And the reason for my nightmares are because of my responsibilities.
The past is way too much to handle, the present is too stressful, and the future is unpredictable. My life is a mess.
Most people say, getting up from the deep sleep they fall into is the hardest part of their day, but are they correct? Do others agree? Is waking up really the hardest part, or is falling asleep?
My job isn't so hard. It's awfully difficult! Being an assistant for snobbish actors and actresses is harder than I imagined. Hailey has the same job, but she has more freedom in hers than I do in mine. It's not fair.
But then again, what is?
I was just about to leave my office, when a phone started ringing. I carefully picked it up, making sure not to ruin any of the jewels that were put on it by my last client, and answered.
"Adrienne Parker at the line, how may I help you?" I said my phrase into the line.
"Adrienne?" A familiar voice said.
"Oh, Hailey! What's up?" I asked, relieved that is wasn't some celebrity asking for favors.
"Boss wants you to come down. We have another group to assist."
I groaned and closed my eyes. "But we literally just finished our current one,"
"I know," She sighed. "It's important, though. We can't bail this one."
"Alright. I'll be down in two." I sighed and closed the phone. I gathered my things and made my way down to our boss's office.
I knocked on the door before hearing a faint "Come in". I turned the doorknob and lightly pushed the door so it would open.
When I opened the door, I saw four boys sitting down along with my boss, who I like to call Kyle, and Hailey.
"Sorry, I was just organizing. What is this meeting about?" I said.
