The lake behind the woods

I fell inlove with my best friend.

Her name was holly.

Her hair was really long and black. She only has one friend ⸻ me.

She's quiet at first, but funny and loud when you get to know her. And i loved her for that.

Her favourite place was the lake behind the forest. I've never been there, i've only seen pictures.

She always looks so happy on the pictures she sends me. She likes to read on a bench made out of oak wood next to the lake.

Me and Holly were at the school cafeteria for lunch, and then she asked me something.

"Hey, you've never been around to the lake behind the woods yet, right? Would you like to go there with me after school today?"

My eyes were wide open.

"You mean...like...a date?

I clearly see her cheeks turning a warm red. She was blushing. Then she shrug her shouldera and smiles.

"Yeah...a date.."

She giggles a little. I couldn't do anything else but smile and hug her in the spot.

After our last lesson, which was physics, we went to the lake behind the woods.

We sat down on the oak bench she always sits at. It looked even better in real life, and it's even more amazing, because Holly was here with me.

She grabs my hand and layed her head on my shoulder as we both looked at the view.

The sun made the lake glitter beautifully. In the distance you were able to see mountains. She grabbed my hand tighter.

"Did you ever think we'll end up here?" She asked me. She lifted her head off my shoulder to look at me.

"What do you mean?" I turned to look at her too.

She chuckled.

"What do you think, silly? I mean us sitting here together, holding hands, isn't this kind of...romantic to you? She grinned.

I nodded slightly and tuck my red hair behind my ear.

She leaned closer to me.

"Do you enjoy it?"

I was extremly close to her face. My hand slipped away from hers as i tried not to fall. She noticed and grabbed my waist with both her arms. When i was not about to fall anymore i nodded. "Yes, yes I do."

Holly leaned in for a kiss, and so did I.

It was a long, passionate kiss. Since my hands were free, i wrapped them around her shoulders.

The kiss went on and on. There was just no end to it.

She detached from the kiss for a second to catch air and then she went in for another.

Holly gently started to kiss my neck. I smile at her give her kisses on her head.

After a few minutes which felt like hours we stopped.

"I can't imagine I'm here with you." She pulled me closer to her and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

I gave her a warm smile.

"Does this mean... we're dating?"

"I think so..." She answered me, giving me the warm smile back.

We kissed again this time not that long.

After a lot of hours, the sun went down.

The lake behind the woods was now shining orange because of the sunset.

Both of us were silent, holding hands.

"Have you ever thought of...dying?" Holly asked me.

I quickly turned my head in her direction with a worried look on my face. "I have...but what are you saying?"

She let out a scuff like noise.

She stands up and walks to start of the water.

"You're all i've ever wanted. Now that i have you as my girlfriend, i don't have any goals left."

My face must've looked even more worried.

"I don't know what I'm doing...but what I know is that i just have to do this."

I closed my eyes and let out a sigh. I open my eyes to look at the sky that was now already dark blue with no clouds. You could clearly see the moon, shining onto the lake behind the woods.

"Fine." I mumble.

I looked back at the woods one last time before i stepped forward, now standing next to Holly.

She reached out to my hand and i took it.

"Let's do this." I say while smiling at her.

Holly nodded.

We slowly stepped into the water. It was cold.

I didn't want to wait longer to die. I ran into the water, pulling her with me. We ran until the water barely reached our chins.

"I'll love you forever, Holly." I whispered in her ear.

"Me too, my love. See you in another life. I promise, i will find you." She answered me.

We layed down on the water, floating on the surface of the lake behind the woods. We held hands.

We floated for ages. Until we sunk.

We sunk and sunk, hand in hand, until we hit the ground. No air. No light.

The last things i felt was my hand in hers and the feeling of sand on my body.

And then
