All Avalia wanted to go was get away from her aunt. The one that was always abusing her. The one that banned her from the girl she liked. The one that made her life a living hell. So, she decided to go to the beach with Sammy. They were laying out in the sun, finally getting a tan.
"I'm so glad we're skipping summer school, I can't deal with being around everyone after last night," Avalia complained.
"I can't believe she banned you from seeing Phoebe," Sammy exclaimed. "Who does that?"
"Well, at least we kissed last night," Avalia mumbled, only loud enough for Sammy to hear. She gasped and started squealing.
"Oh my god! I'm so proud of you," Sammy said, grinning at Avalia.
"You make it seem like I got an A+ on my final." The two giggle. Something in Sammy's mind clicked a second later. "Has your aunt ever met Phoebe before?" Avalia shook her head as she bit into a cracker before a seagull swept down and took it.
"So just pretend that's not the girl," Sammy explained. "Then, you can still be with her and live happily ever after."
"This isn't a Disney movie," Avalia laughed. "But it could work-" Avalia looked up and saw shards coming up from the water.
"What the hell is that?" Sammy questioned, starting to throw stuff in the beach bag.
"Shit!" Avalia grabbed the towels, her phone, and her bag and lifted up Sammy. They quickly slid their shoes on and ran past the crowd of people. Pushing past adults and children, they quickly ran for any help. It took them a few minutes of dodging before Avalia got struck by an icicle. Sammy screamed for help and noticed a vehicle wailing. She waved for its attention, not getting any response for a few seconds. It thankfully slowed down for the two girls. Sammy picked up Avalia and ran to the car. It unlocked and the two hopped in the seat. The door quickly closed and they were off.
"Who the hell-" Phoebe turned and noticed a familiar face. "Val!" The girl grinned, although she was still in pain from the icicle.
"Okay, you two are adorable and all, but not right now. We need to get back to the firehouse as soon as possible," Callie interrupted. Phoebe sighed.
"It's okay if you guys hate me," Phoebe mumbled. Avalia had no context, so she would have to ask what happened later. Sammy rubbed Avalia's back to comfort her friend.
"We don't hate you. We were worried about you," Gary explained.
"We didn't know where you were. You could've been killed," Callie added, her voice slightly breaking.
"I trusted somebody that I shouldn't have." Avalia thought back to the party before she met Phoebe. Yeah, she's definitely had this experience before. "I just feel stupid."
