Bakugou sat slouched on the couch in the common room, pretending to read the latest issue of Heroic Digest. His eyes kept drifting up, though, drawn to the soft sounds of you rummaging through your makeup bag at the table. You were humming quietly to yourself, completely absorbed in your task. The light from the window caught the flecks of glitter in your makeup as you carefully applied it to your eyelids.
It was infuriating how much attention you paid to such trivial things. And yet... he couldn't stop watching.
"Why does she even bother with that crap?" he muttered under his breath, though his voice lacked its usual bite. His grip tightened on the magazine, the paper crinkling under his fingers. "Takes her so damn long, too."
You smiled at your reflection, seemingly oblivious to his scrutiny. Bakugou's heart did a small, stupid flip—one he tried to ignore. He hated that he liked seeing you like this, all girly and glowing with confidence. It was distracting. But more than that, it was dangerous.
He didn't care. He couldn't care. This whole fake relationship thing was just that—fake. He was only doing it to help you and those two idiots, Deku and Uraraka. But as he watched you carefully swipe on another layer of mascara, he couldn't shake the feeling that he might be in way deeper than he'd ever planned.
You stood in front of the dorm bathroom mirror, carefully drawing the perfect winged eyeliner, when Uraraka walked in. You offered her a quick smile before focusing on your makeup again.
"Hey, Y/N! You look cute! Got a hot date or something?" Uraraka teased, leaning against the sink beside you.
You fumbled slightly with your eyeliner pen, trying to think of a convincing answer. "Uh, just... heading out to grab something. Alone."
Uraraka raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "Alone? Are you sure? Because I've noticed you've been spending a lot of time with Bakugou lately. Are you two...?"Before you could respond, the door to the bathroom creaked open, and Bakugou stomped in, looking as irritated as ever. His eyes locked with yours in the mirror, and for a moment, you froze.
"None of your damn business, cheeks," Bakugou snapped, his voice sharp as usual, but there was a softness in his eyes that only you noticed. He tore his gaze away and turned to leave, but not before adding, "And don't call her cute."
Uraraka blinked in surprise, glancing between you and Bakugou as he stormed out. "Okay, what was that about?" she asked, her voice laced with suspicion. "Are you sure you two aren't...?""No! I mean, it's nothing," you stammered, trying to hide your growing panic. "Bakugou's just... Bakugou. He's helping me out with something, that's all."
"Helping you out, huh?" Uraraka eyed you closely, but you quickly turned back to the mirror, pretending to be deeply focused on your makeup.
"Yeah, nothing to worry about!" You forced a laugh, but the truth was, you were worried—worried that this fake relationship was starting to feel a little too real, and that Bakugou's rare moments of softness were becoming harder to ignore.
Later that evening, Bakugou and you found yourselves at a small, quiet café just off campus. It was supposed to be part of the act—pretend to be on a date to keep up appearances. But as you sipped your drink and laughed at one of Bakugou's sarcastic remarks.
Bakugou's eyes lingered on you longer than usual, and he found himself noticing the little details—how your lips curved into a smile, how your eyes sparkled with your sparkly eye makeup under the café lights, and how you absentmindedly played with the straw in your drink."You're staring," you pointed out, a teasing lilt in your voice.
"Shut up," he grumbled, but there was no heat in his words. He looked away, a faint blush creeping up his neck. "Just making sure you're not screwing up the plan."
"Right," you said, though you couldn't help but smile. You leaned back in your chair, feeling more comfortable around him than you ever thought possible. "This whole fake dating thing... it's not so bad, is it?"
Bakugou snorted, but there was a softness in his expression that you couldn't quite place. "Tch. It's a pain in the ass," he muttered, but the corners of his mouth twitched upward. "But I guess it's not the worst."
Back at the dorms, Uraraka cornered you in the hallway, eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Y/N, you've been secretive lately. What's going on with you and Bakugou? I keep seeing you two together."
Your heart pounded as you tried to keep your expression neutral. "Uraraka, I—" you started, then sighed as if resigned. "Okay, fine. You caught me."
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Caught you? So... it's true? You and Bakugou are... dating?"You nodded, putting on your best "guilty" face. "Yeah, we are. I just didn't want to tell anyone because, well... you know how Bakugou is. He didn't want everyone making a big deal out of it."Uraraka looked shocked, her suspicion turning to confusion. "Really? Bakugou? I didn't see that coming."
You shrugged as casually as possible. "Yeah, it's weird, I know. But he's not as bad as everyone thinks. He's... different when it's just us."
Uraraka still seemed unsure, but she softened slightly. "I just thought you'd tell me. Why keep it a secret?"
You hesitated, trying to find the right words. "I didn't want it to affect things with you and Deku. You two have been getting closer, and I didn't want to make things awkward by talking about my relationship."
Uraraka's face turned red at the mention of Deku, her flustered expression making her look more convinced. "Oh... I didn't think of that."
"Exactly," you said, sensing she was buying it. "And Bakugou's really not into public displays of affection, so we've been keeping things low-key since we just just started dating."
Uraraka nodded slowly, her skepticism fading. "I guess that makes sense. I just didn't expect it... But if you're happy, then I'm happy for you."You smiled, relieved. "Thanks, Uraraka. And hey, maybe now you and Deku can spend more time together too. I'm 100% over him plus we weren't even dating"Uraraka's blush deepened, and she smiled shyly. "Maybe..."
As she walked away, you exhaled, trying to calm your racing heart. You'd managed to convince her for now, but you knew this lie was going to get harder to maintain. Still, there was no point in overthinking it—this was just a temporary arrangement, a means to an end. Feelings, if there were any, didn't need to be part of the equation. Not yet, anyway.
