Lizavet held her breath. She didn't know what she was waiting for. There was an apkallu on either side of her, holding her in their grip. She sensed the spiritual battle going on - but this was so different from her dream. The ongoing nightmare from childhood had been her against the apkallu. No family. No Treasure Guardian. No adopted father...

She glanced back at Indy - sprawled across the altar. He'd taken her place. He'd jumped forward, shoving her out of the way, sacrificing himself for her. She'd seen it. And it hurt her probably more than it had hurt him.

"What are you crying over?" Edo-apkallu growled.

"You wouldn't understand," Lizavet choked out her words, trying to turn them into a growl. "You're incapable of understanding love and sacrifice. All of you! Utterly incapable!"

"We shall see," Lizavet," Edo-apkallu warned. "You may still be our sacrifice. It's what we trained you for."

Lizavet swallowed and watched the flickering in the supernatural. She could see the fight. Emily had struck down Chiba-apkallu and rescued a child from a tomb. Shorty had struck down the demon high priest Mola Ram, conquering his childhood fear.

Two figures appeared before her. Children. Two children each armed with one of the swords of Diya...

Lizavet could see the children, but the apkallu hadn't reacted.

___

Emily's daughter paused, staring at the apkallu. "They're uglier here."

Shorty and Lizavet's son turned to his younger cousin. "That's what you're gonna say?"

"Well - I don't think they're scary - just ugly." She gave Indy and Emily's little half shrug and paused, seeing Lizavet. "Is that Aunt Lizavet?"

"Yeah. That's Momma." He squared his shoulders like his father. "I think she sees us."

"Children?" Lizavet whispered in shock, keeping her voice in the supernatural. "Henry.... And Fortuna?"

The children nodded. They turned to Indy.

"Is that... Gwandpa?" Emily's daughter asked.

"Yes. That's your grandfather. He's a wonderful man," Lizavet whispered to them.

"How come you're being held hostage, Momma?" Shorty's son asked.

"This is my dream from childhood," Lizavet explained.

"But you know how to get out, right, Momma?"

Emily's daughter tapped her cousin with a kick. "We're supposed to deliver the swords to her so she can get out."

"Stay back children," Lizavet instructed. "I'll come to you."

"How?" The boy asked, his voice trembling as he witnessed his mother held captive by the fearsome apkallu.

"I'm not afraid of them," Lizavet smiled. "I have hope, and I've seen the plans for the future."

"Us?" Emily's daughter asked.

Lizavet smiled. "Yes, both of you. And more."

___

Edo-apkallu saw Lizavet's calm reaction. He was loosing his grip of fear on the young female sacrifice.

"What are you looking at?" he demanded.

"Something you can't see," Lizavet replied softly. "And something you won't understand." She glared at Edo-apkallu fearlessly. "I have seen the undoing of your plans. The Treasure Guardian showed me your undoing. It is beautiful."

"There's something in the supernatural isn't there?" Edo-apkallu growled. "Why can't we see it?"

"You're embodied. Like a human. I'm a shaman. I can see into the supernatural. You are blind." Lizavet made a shaman travel motion with her hand, ripping out of the apkallu's grip and disappearing into the unseen realm.

__

She rushed the two children, gripping her son and niece in a hug. "Thank you! Thank you, little ones!" She took the swords. "Hurry back to the Treasure Guardian."

Her son took Emily's daughter's hand. "Momma - when will I see you again?"

"Not for awhile, Henry. There is another child before I meet you."

"What about me?" Emily's daughter asked. "Is Momma ever going to find someone? I know she's scared about the scars making her unlovable..."

"Your mother has to learn that scars aren't what makes a person ugly, Fortuna," Lizavet smiled.

"How do you know our names?" The little girl asked.

"That is a mystery for another day. And I think the Treasure Guardian would love to answer that for you," Lizavet smiled. "Hurry back to him."
