Even though this night seemed boring at first, I had a feeling something was about to change within me. Lily and my other friends had pushed me to go to one of the city's most popular nightclubs. Initially, I didn't want to be in such a crowded and noisy place, but I eventually gave in and joined them. Now, here I was, lost in the rhythm of the loud music and colorful lights.
I had retreated to a corner of the table, holding my drink and observing the scene around me. Everyone seemed so cheerful and full of life, as if they were living the best moments of their lives. But I didn't feel like I was a part of this atmosphere. I should be happy, right? But somehow, there was an emptiness inside me, as if there was no reason for me to be here.
"Emma, put your phone down already," Lily said, suddenly appearing beside me. There was a glint in her eyes, as if she was about to share a big secret. "I've got something to show you."
I looked up at her. Lily was holding her phone, wearing that mischievous smile I knew so well—she always had that look when she was up to something. "What is it? What have you found this time?" I asked, a bit reluctantly. I wasn't really in the mood to be surprised or excited tonight.
Lily handed me her phone, showing me a profile on the screen. "What do you think of this guy?" she asked, as if she had made a huge discovery. I took the phone and looked at the screen. A photo of a man appeared before me. He had sharp, defined features, dark hair, and intense eyes—he was quite striking. My eyes caught the name at the bottom of the screen: Noah Carter.
"Noah Carter," I read the name aloud. "Who is he?"
"It's normal you don't know him," Lily said, implying it wasn't surprising I hadn't heard of him. "He's been the talk of the town for a while now. He created this dating app and achieved incredible success in a short time. Everyone's talking about him."
I shook my head, Lily's words swirling in my mind. Noah Carter... The name didn't ring any bells, but there was something about the look in his eyes that strangely caught my attention. "But... why are you showing him to me? I mean, he might be interesting, but I don't know him."
"Interesting?" Lily laughed. "This guy is amazing, Emma. Are you serious? Look at him, just look at that charisma! You should start messaging him. What do you have to lose?"
I handed the phone back to her. As I looked at Noah Carter's profile, a strange feeling crept over me. Maybe Lily was right. Maybe I could have a little fun with this guy. What did I have to lose, anyway? I took a deep breath, grabbed the phone again, and tapped on the message box below the profile.
"Hi, Noah. Your profile caught my eye. I'd like to get to know you." I wrote, then hit send and set the phone down on the table. My heart began to race. It was just a message, but an indescribable wave of excitement washed over me.
A wide grin spread across Lily's face. "There you go. That wasn't so hard, was it? Now, let's see what he says."
I nodded, trying to suppress the excitement building inside me. At the same time, I scolded myself—why was I so nervous? It was just a message, and Noah Carter was just another guy. I didn't even know who he was.
But a part of me, that small voice inside, whispered that tonight would turn out differently than I expected. Who was Noah Carter? And why had I never heard of him before?
As my thoughts got lost in the club's noisy atmosphere, time flew by. While my friends kept dancing, I withdrew to a corner, contemplating the possible outcomes of the message I had just sent. When I saw the look on Lily's face, I felt something was about to change within me. Maybe this night would mark a turning point in my life's otherwise ordinary course.
"This is just the beginning," Lily said, as if she had read my mind. "You'll thank me when you find out who Noah Carter is."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Maybe Lily was right. Maybe tonight would stop being ordinary and turn into the biggest adventure of my life. But still, a doubt lingered within me. Was Noah Carter really more than I thought?
As I wrestled with these questions, my phone's screen lit up. My heart raced once more. I tapped the screen to see the incoming message.
"Hey Emma, nice to meet you! I'm up for getting to know you too. What's something about you that would surprise me?"
At that moment, I felt something stir inside me. It was just a message, but maybe it meant more than I realized. Perhaps this was the beginning of a new chapter in my life."
