At three thirty that afternoon, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Julie hurried down the front steps into the grounds along with the other Gryffindors.

The Slytherins were already there and so were twenty broomsticks lying in neat lines on the ground. Fred and George already told them that the school broomsticks started vibrating if you flew to high or always flew slightly to the left, which made Julie kind of nervous, but she still tried keeping an positive attitude.

Soon Madam Hooch, their teacher, arrived. She had short, grey hair and yellow eyes like a hawk.

"Well what are you all waiting for?" She barked "Everyone stand by a broomstick. Come on, hurry up!"

Julie stood between Hermione and Harry. She glanced down at her broom and realized that it was very old.

"Stick your right hand over your broom" Madam Hooch called. "and say 'up'"

"UP" Julie shouted along with the others. To her surprise her broom jumped into her hands at once. She looked around and saw that only Harry, Malfoy and she managed to do that.

The others seemed to struggle with it: Hermione's broom for example simply just rolled around and Nevilles didn't even move.

Madam Hooch then showed them how to mount their brooms without sliding off the end and walked around the rows correcting their grips.

Hermione and Julie exchanged delighted looks when Madam Hooch told Malfoy that he had been doing it wrong for years.

"Now, when I blow my whistle you kick off from the ground hard" Madam Hooch said. "Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet and then come straight back by leaning forwards slightly. On my whistle: three... two..."

Neville who was nervous an jumpy had kicked off before the whistle sounded.

"Come back boy!" Madam Hooch shouted. Julie looked at Neville in horror. He rose twelve feet - twenty feet. She saw his scared face which was very white. He slipped off the side of his broom and WHAM. A thud and a nasty crack and Neville lay face down, on the grass in a heap.

"Broken wrist" Julie heard Madam Hooch mutter "Come on, boy - it's alright, up you get." Neville looked like he was in a lot of pain and I felt really sorry for him. But Madam Hooch had now turned around to the class.

"None of you is to move while I take this boy to the hospital wing! You leave those brooms where they are or you'll be out of Hogwarts before you can say 'Quidditch'. Come on dear!"

As soon as Madam Hooch and Neville were out of sight, Malfoy burst into laughter. "Did you see his  face, the great lump?" he asked as the other Slytherins joined in.

"Shut it, Malfoy!" Julie immediately said, taking a step forward.

"Oh are you in love with that lump?" Pansy Parkinson asked "Or why are you defending him?" Julie looked at her in disgust and was about to say something to her, but Potter was quicker.

"Leave her alone" he said.

"Oh, Look how cute. Potter's come to save his girlfriend!" Malfoy loudly said, earning a round of great laughter from the Slytherins.

Julie couldn't help but look at Harry in surprise. "Potter, what are you doing?"

He shrugged, wearing a half-smile. "I just can't let you take him on alone, can I? Malfoy's fun to mess with."

Julie rolled her eyes. "You're ridiculous."

"Look! It's that stupid thing Longbottom's gran sent him" said Malfoy suddenly while pickung up the Rememberball.

"Give that here!" Julie said angrily, but Malfoy ignored her. "I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to collect. How about up a tree?"

"GIVE IT HERE!" Harry yelled, but Malfoy was already up in the air. Julie was so angry she didn't even think about what she was going to do next. She jumped on the broom and flew after him.

"Harry, Julie, no!" Julei heard Hermione scream. Harry? She looked to her right and saw Potter next to her also flying after Malfoy.

"Harry! What are you doin?" Julie exclaimed

"Chasing Malfoy, same as you," Harry replied casually, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Don't tell me you're scared, Clarke?"

"Of you? Never," she shot back, eyes narrowing.

"Good. Because I'll probably need the help when we catch him."

They shot into the air, dodging and weaving as Malfoy led them on a chase around the pitch.

"Get down!" Julie shouted, noticing how fast Harry was getting. "That's dangerous!"

"You first!" he called, grinning.

"No, I'll stay here," Julie retorted. "You go down if you're so scared!"

"Uh-huh, sure," Harry said, his tone teasing. "You know, I think you're secretly scared of falling."

"I'm not scared," Julie snapped. "I've got this under control."

"Yeah, right," Harry teased, but there was a playful gleam in his eyes.

Just then, Malfoy shouted, "Are you two finished with your little date up there?" He and the Slytherins burst into laughter.

Julie shot Harry a look. "A date? Really?"

"Not sure. You the one who's madly in love with me, or him?" Harry replied with an exaggerated shrug.

"Don't distract me, Potter!" Julie snapped, trying to focus. Malfoy was too busy laughing to care that he was holding the Rememberball right in front of her.

Julie bent forward and sped towards him. Just then she realised how nice flying felt and how easy it was. Her hair was blown back by the wind and she took the ball out of his hands and flew past him.

When he noticed he quickly flew after her, but Julie was quicker.

"Harry, catch!" she yelled and threw the ball at him. Harry dived after the ball and for a second she thought he was going to fall on the ground, but he didn't. He caught himself and the Rememberball.

They then flew down, both landing safely on the ground. The Rememberball was safely clutched in Harrys fists. Julie felt pretty proud of herself for being a pretty good flier for her first try, but not even seconds after they landed...

"HARRY POTTER! JULIE CLARKE!"
