-Oh, won't you kiss me
on the mouth and
love me like
a sailor?--
"Gay freak!" They laughed at me. All of them. All the time.
They were choosing teams in the Gymnasium. I saw everyone getting chosen. One by one. Until it was just me. Always the last one chosen. I should've gotten used to it but it still hurts.
I decided not to go home after school. I didn't want to face my parents. I went to the boardwalk beside the river instead. Stood in a line for the ferris wheel. And that's when I saw him, infront of me.
Dark eyes, silky middle parted hair that fell over his eyes which probably didn't bother him. Laughing with his two friends infront of him. He was practically glowing.
I felt something warm in my stomach. I just couldn't stop staring at him.
"Sorry it's two people per gondola." His two friends got on one. And he turned to me.
"Um do you wanna get in with me?" He asked with that smile on his lips and my heart squeezed.
I nod. As if I would ever say no.
It was quiet at first. But it felt okay. It wasn't that awkward.
"So what's your name?" He asked while smiling at me. God, does he ever stop smiling?
"Fourth."
"Ah, as in the number fourth?"
I nod.
"That's cute. I'm Gemini" He said as he put his hand forward. And I took it. Shook hands in a way that should've been formal, short. But it wasn't. He kept his hold firm, as if he didn't want to let go. Why wouldn't he? He looked into my eyes. I felt his gaze so I locked it with mine. His dark orbs with my own.
His grip suddenly loosened and he gave me a smile before turning away. What just happened? The air suddenly changed. But either ways, we talked. Well mostly him and I just listened. About school, friends and I don't know what. We laughed. He laughed. I laughed. First time in a while. The gondola came to a stop. We both got down and his friends walked over to us, giggling and teasing.
"Aw did you guys kiss?" They were laughing and teasing Gemini, which he just brushed it off. He walked towards me and just stood there. As if he wants to ask me something. But we finally said our goodbyes to each other and walked away. Until I heard that voice yell my name.
"Fourth!" I turned around and saw Gemini, running towards me. "Can I have your number? I'd like to hangout with you sometimes." He said scratching the back of his head. "If you wanna be my friend- that is."
I felt something exciting and warm inside me. I smiled again and nodded. We exchanged numbers and said bye to eachother. That night, I went home in a surprisingly good mood.
We kept in touch that week. Texted very frequently. Updating eachother on what we were doing and all. It was nice talking to someone that actually sees me.
"Tomorrow 4pm. In?"
"At the café. I'll be there."
I was thinking of telling him about me. My condition. An illness some might say. Maybe a disease? They said I'm not normal. But why? If I tell Gemini, will he laugh at me too? Tease me? Call me names?
I felt him nudge my shoulders.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"I am." We decided to go to his secret spot at the park. To watch the sunset while sitting on the grass. It was nice and warm.
