"Say, if I only could

I'd make a deal with God

And I'd get Him to swap our places

I'd be runnin' up that road

Be runnin' up that hill

With no problems"

-"Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush

The dungeons became even colder as the winter months passed bringing us ever closer to the winter holidays. The house elfs decorated the corridors, a manifestation of the students' jolliness along with their excited whispers of present wishes. Their merriment was contagious. The promises of a warm home with gifts awaiting under the Christmas tree ready to be opened with hugs from my smiling mother, all without the backhanded whispers and away from peering gazes, awaited me eagerly. It was like a panacea to keep me going for these last few weeks.

This next break came with a new promise though: now that my relationship with Kacchan was somewhat remedied, would I be seeing him over the break? Would we share what gifts we got as we ate leftovers of Mrs. Bakugo's Christmas dinner like we used to? I wasn't sure but a part of me couldn't help but hope.

As I came into the common room, I saw Tsu was already sitting at one of the tables with a quill in hand and a focused look on her face.

"'Morning," I said, which seemed to break her concentration as she slightly jumped.

She glanced upward, her face immediately softening as she noticed me. "Good morning, 'Zu."

"What are you doing?" I asked as I approached the table.

She returned her gaze to her parchment and she resumed her task after saying, "Writing to my family."

"Oh," I said and sat in the chair opposite hers.

For a few brief moments the only sounds that could be heard were of the occasional students heading for breakfast and the sound of her furious scribbling before a sickly cheerful voice boomed, "Izuku!"

I turned around to see Neito who looked way too happy at way too early in the morning. "Good morning," I said politely.

"'Morning," came his easy reply, "Say Izuku, I've been seeing you with your broom a lot... Are you coming to tryouts?"

"Yes," I replied carefully but his smile just seemed to widen.

"Awesome, I'll see you then."

A scoff came from the dormitory entrances as Mineta sourly sauntered into the common room. "Neita is looking forward to Deku trying out? Merlin, what has the world come to," he bitterly said.

Neito's happy expression immediately fell as he turned around. "Better him than you," he reprimanded.

Mineta snickered. "You sure? Best case scenario we lose the house cup and worst case he actually ends up fucking dying this time." The sound of Tsu's writing suddenly stopped and the common room was filled with an eerie silence which was immediately broken by Mineta's horrible guffawing.

"Was that supposed to be a fucking joke?" Tsu spat but Mineta just kept laughing, so clearly it was to him.

"Actually," he continued between laughs, "Switch them around" – another hideous chortle – "Deku dying would give us a chance to replace him and win."
