**Chapter 1: The Traveler**
Summer Pineda stood behind the counter of her bustling café in Makati, her eyes reflecting a mixture of excitement and melancholy. She was preparing to embark on a new journey, a trip that would take her far from the familiarity of her café and the recent heartbreak she’d been trying to overcome. It had been a month since her breakup with Zander, and the café had become her refuge, a place to bury her sadness in the hum of daily routines and the comforting aroma of coffee.
Summer turned to Amanda, her trusted café manager, who was busy organizing supplies. "So, Amanda, I’ll be away for two months, okay?" Summer said, her tone firm but tinged with vulnerability. "If you need anything, you can reach me on my number. I’ll be inactive on social media for the duration of my trip."
Amanda looked up from her work, concern evident in her eyes. "Two months is a long time, Summer. Are you sure you’ll be okay? And is there anything specific I should know or prepare for while you’re gone?"
Summer nodded, offering a reassuring smile. "I’m sure. I’ve left detailed instructions for the team and everything is set up for a smooth operation. I just need this time to clear my head and focus on my travels. It’s important for me to take a break and see what the world has to offer."
Amanda gave a supportive nod, though she still looked slightly worried. "Alright, Summer. We’ll hold down the fort. Just take care of yourself out there."
With a final glance around the café, Summer felt a mixture of sadness and anticipation. She was ready to leave behind the familiar rhythms of her daily life and embark on a journey that promised new experiences and perhaps a fresh perspective. As she stepped out of the café, she took a deep breath, ready to embrace the unknown and heal her heart through her adventures.
**The Departure**
Today was the day. Summer stood in the departure hall of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, her heart racing with a blend of excitement and relief. Her flight to Siargao, her beloved island retreat, was about to take off. It was a place she had visited numerous times before, drawn to its serene landscapes and the warmth of its people. For Summer, Siargao was more than just a destination; it was a sanctuary where she found peace and solace.
She glanced at her watch and then at her boarding pass, ensuring everything was in order. The hustle and bustle of the airport seemed distant and irrelevant compared to the calm she anticipated on the island. It had been a month since her breakup with Zander, and she hoped that this trip would help her reconnect with herself and find some much-needed clarity.
As she made her way to the gate, her thoughts wandered back to the countless sunsets she had witnessed on Siargao’s pristine beaches and the genuine smiles of the locals who had welcomed her like family. The island’s tranquil vibe was a balm for her troubled heart, and she longed to immerse herself in its rhythm once again.
Finally, as she boarded the plane, Summer settled into her seat and closed her eyes, envisioning the gentle waves and swaying palm trees of Siargao. She thought about the peaceful mornings she would spend strolling along the shore and the lively conversations with the locals who had become friends. It was these simple, yet profound moments that had always provided her with a sense of calm and rejuvenation.
As the plane ascended and the city below faded into the distance, Summer felt a wave of anticipation wash over her. This was more than just a getaway; it was a chance to heal, to rediscover the joy she had lost, and to embrace the adventures that awaited her on the island. With a deep breath, she let go of the lingering shadows of the past month and allowed herself to be fully present in the excitement of her journey ahead.
**Arrival**
Summer’s plane landed at Siargao Airport around noon, and as she disembarked, the familiar tropical warmth immediately lifted her spirits. The small airport was a cozy, welcoming place, but it was a bit of a drive from the beachside resort where she’d be staying.
After collecting her luggage and clearing customs, Summer made her way to the exit where a familiar face awaited her. Berto, a local driver she had befriended on previous visits, greeted her with his trademark warm smile.
“Summer! It’s great to see you again!” Berto called out, his cheerful voice cutting through the airport’s ambient noise.
“Hi, Berto!” Summer replied, her face lighting up with relief and excitement. “It’s so good to see you!”
Berto helped her load her bags into the van, and soon they were on their way. The drive from the airport to her resort was filled with picturesque scenes of Siargao’s lush landscapes and quaint rural charm. The route took them through vibrant rice paddies, scattered coconut palms, and traditional village homes.
“It’s been a while since I was last here,” Summer said, glancing out of the window. “Everything looks so green and alive.”
Berto nodded, his eyes twinkling with pride. “Siargao always stays beautiful. It has a way of welcoming people back.”
After about an hour of driving, the van finally reached the resort nestled by the beach. Summer checked in and was shown to her room, which was spacious and beautifully decorated with a view of the resort’s lush gardens.
Eager to unwind, Summer quickly changed into her beachwear and decided to take a walk along the shore. Though the beach was a short drive from the resort, it was worth every minute of anticipation. As she approached the ocean, the sight of the vast, open water and the gentle sound of the waves was invigorating.
The sun was beginning its descent, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Summer took a deep breath, savoring the fresh sea air. She wandered along the shoreline, her toes sinking into the soft, warm sand. The calming rhythm of the waves and the tranquility of the setting sun helped her shed the remnants of her recent worries.
As darkness began to settle, Summer felt a renewed sense of peace and anticipation for the adventures ahead. In this serene moment on the beach, surrounded by the natural beauty of Siargao, she knew she had made the right choice.
