ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ THUNDER ROLLED ACROSS THE ROLLING SEA, A DEEP GUTTURAL GROWL THAT WARNED OF CHAOS TO COME...
The ship Leviathan's Wrath rocked violently against the onslaught of waves, its black sails slashing the sky like torn wings. Captain Caspian stood firm at the helm, his coat soaked through, dark curls plastered to his sharp cheekbones. His jaw clenched as his green eyes scanned the churning horizon. He wasn't chasing gold tonight. No. He was hunting a legend.
"The Mermaid Royal," he muttered under his breath, fingers tightening around the ship's wheel. "She's close."
The wind screamed as if in protest. Around him, his crew hustled, dread clinging to their movements like sea mist. They'd all heard the tales—songs of a breathtaking mermaid of noble blood, whose voice could bend will and whose beauty could unmake kings. Caspian wasn't afraid. He was intrigued. Obsessed. And tonight, he would have her.
Lightning forked across the sky as the water erupted. Mermaids—dozens—burst from the waves, eyes glowing like opals, blades made of coral and bone glinting as they descended upon the ship. The battle exploded in an instant. Caspian bellowed orders, steel clashing with scale and fin.
He fought like a man possessed, cutting through the sea warriors with unrelenting precision. Blood clouded the water. Screams bubbled to the surface. In the chaos, the net was cast.
And then—he was dragged under.
Saltwater swallowed him whole. The pressure crushed against his ribs, but he didn't fight to breathe. Not yet. He sliced through the water, cutting down mermen as they tried to drag him deeper. It was carnage, but he thrived in it.
The cold hit first, like knives across his skin. Saltwater flooded his lungs before he could even scream. The world above vanished, leaving only blackness and the roar of his heartbeat in his ears. He kicked against the pull, but it was useless—his limbs were lead, his coat too heavy. The storm blurred into shadow.
