Taehyung's POV
I've always believed in duty. It's what drives me every day, wearing this uniform, saluting the flag, and following orders. The army is my life, my purpose. But today, I'm facing something I never saw coming—something that has nothing to do with the battlefield and everything to do with my future.
It started with a phone call from my mother. She sounded excited, which isn't unusual, but there was something in her voice that made me pause.
"Taehyung-ah, I have some wonderful news for you!" she said, her words bubbling with joy.
I leaned back in my chair, the usual tension in my shoulders easing a bit. "What is it, Mom?"
"You're getting married!"
The words hit me like a cold wave. "Married? To whom?"
"To a lovely girl from India. Her name is Suhani Sharma. Her family and ours have known each other for years. We've arranged everything."
I was stunned. An arranged marriage? I thought that was something that happened in the past or in stories. Not to me.
"Mom... I don't even know her," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I know, but she's perfect for you. You'll see. Her parents are very respectable, and she's beautiful, kind, and smart. Trust me, Taehyung, this is the right decision."
Trust. It's what I've always given my parents. They've never steered me wrong before. But this—this was different. Marriage is a big deal, a lifelong commitment. How could I promise myself to someone I've never even met?
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "When am I supposed to meet her?"
"There's no rush, but her family will be visiting Korea soon. We've arranged a meeting for you two. Just meet her, Taehyung. That's all we ask."
I was silent for a moment, my mind racing. Part of me wanted to refuse outright. But then, another part of me—the part that has always done what's expected, that values my parents' wishes—couldn't just say no.
"Alright," I finally said. "I'll meet her."
"Thank you, my son. You're doing the right thing."
As I hung up, I stared out the window of my small apartment, my thoughts a tangled mess. I was used to making decisions based on strategy and logic, not on emotions or family expectations. The idea of an arranged marriage felt... outdated, like something out of an old movie.
But I'd agreed to meet her. I told myself it was just a meeting, nothing more. If it didn't feel right, I could always say no. But deep down, I knew this was more than just a meeting. This was about my future, and for the first time in a long time, I wasn't sure what to do.
I tried to push the thoughts away, focusing on the tasks at hand. But no matter how hard I tried, the image of a girl I'd never met, with a name I'd never heard before, kept creeping into my mind.
Who is Suhani Sharma? What does she think about all this? Is she as nervous as I am? Or is she more open to this idea of marriage than I am?
I guess I'll find out soon enough.
As I lay in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, I couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty. But along with that uncertainty, there was something else—something I wasn't expecting.
Curiosity.
Maybe, just maybe, this meeting wouldn't be so bad after all.
