We loaded the back with all my luggages and bags and as usual, my 'Entertainment Bag' stays with me.
It was quiet in the car. There wasn't really anything to talk about since both our interests are different. We are from different parts of the world, anyway.
"So... can you suggest to me some nice eating places? I wanna try eating Korean food," I tried to sound polite.
"Let's see... do you like spicy food?"
"I'm not really a fan of spicy food, but might as well try."
"Then I suggest you eat Ddeokbeokki, also known as spicy rice cakes," sounds interesting. Maybe I should try it.
"Oh okay. Thanks for the suggestion," I smile at YoonJae before taking out my phone to check some messages.
One was from Mom, which read, "Emily! Why didn't you bring the sweater I made for you? I found it in your trash. I'm going to wash it and you better wear it when you come back!" How dare she go through my stuff!
I took out my headphones and played my 'Instrumentals' Playlist on my iPod. I look out the window, worrying how much I won't fit in into my new school. How will they look at me? How much hate will they have for me? I ponder before falling asleep in the car.
"Emily? You awake? We're here already," I wake up to the voice of an angel. Okay. Not really an angel.
"Hmm...? Wha-" I quickly jolt up when I see a hand on my shoulder.
"Oh! I-I'm sorry!" He says, backing away from me.
"No, no. It's okay. I'm just a little jumpy," I said before he helps me out of the car.
I grab my bags and carried it out of the car with YoonJae helping me with more than half the load.
"It's okay. I'll help you with it," he says, grabbing the biggest and heaviest bag that I owned. He's quite strong...
"So... do you have any talents?" Oh no. Should I tell him? But... I just met him. Who knows? He might be my first friend in school.
"Uh... yeah. I'm really good at music. Theory, practical, composing of songs, playing the guitar, singing, you get the idea."
"Woah that's so cool! How do you know how to do all these?"
"Um... my dad. He owns a record label."
"Wait. Really? Which one?"
"Winston Star Records." I answered.
"Wait. You're his daughter? The multi-billionaire's daughter?"
"Yeah. I had no choice anyways."
"Hmm... you could probably help me with my music."
"Huh?" I asked him as I couldn't hear him because a motorcycle passed by.
"Oh um... nothing."
We finally reached my dorm. He then put down all my luggages and digged something out of his left pocket.
"Um... this is my number. Call me if you need anything else, okay?" He passed me a paper with his name and number on it and also a letter.
"Thanks. Well uh... bye."
"Bye. See you tomorrow, if we even meet anyway," he then smiled and turned and headed down the stairs.
Before I could even knock on the door, a girl in black tights and a plain tee swung the door open, shouting some Korean words and hugging me, almost squeezing out my last breath.
"Omg! Are you Emily? It's so nice to meet you! I've been waiting for hours for you to arrive!" She then grabbed all my bags with just two hands and dragged them into the room and put all of it beside the cupboard.
"You didn't need t-" She cut me off. She did stay up late to welcome me, didn't she.
"It's okay! I'm just really excited, that's all! No need to thank me. Oh! Sorry! I didn't clean up before you got here," she lookes down to the floor.
"No, no. It's okay. I'm a messy person myself," we both laugh.
"Oh! Shit I'm so sorry! I forgot to introduce myself first! The name's Sophine," she stuck out her hand at my direction.
"Uh... yeah. Hi," I slowly reached for her hand but automatically her hand reached for mine first.
"I'll just head to sleep now. I feel tired after staying up just to greet you, but who cares. It was WORTH IT. Tell me if you need any help, okay? Even if you have nightmares. I don't judge," she says, jumping onto her neon blue bed and hugging all her soft toys. I'm looking forward to her. She seems like someone I can hang out with.
I changed into my "pajamas" and climbed to my bed. It was super cold up here as the aircon is right below your feet. I try to sleep but it never works.
I turn right. I turn left. I slam my face onto the pillow. I look straight up to the ceiling. Why can't I sleep? What's bothering me?
I try not to make any loud noise when climbing down my bed. I went to the toilet and splashed my face with water.
"Emily. Remember why you came here. To forget. Forget about America, forget about your 'family', forget about Timothy. Just stop. Stop. Thinking. About. Hi-
"Emily? You okay there?" My head jolts up as I hear Sophine's voice coming from the room.
"Uh... yep. I'm... I'm fine," I try not to sound like I'm worrying about something because I didn't want Sophine to help me either.
"Oh, okay. Try not to stay up too late okay? Remember, you have to meet Mr In tomorrow at his office," she sounds concerned.
"Yes, Ma'am!" I say, standing straight and saluting to her, which caused both of us to burst out laughing. She then turned to the other side of her bed.
I climbed back to bed. But I just couldn't sleep. Something's really bothering me. I spent the rest of the night thinking about my family. Tears of sadness slowly trickled down my cheeks. Remember, Emily. You're here to forget. Forget.
