When I finally woke up the next morning, I noticed that only Lauren and I were the only ones still laying in bed. Dad wasn't there so I got up out of bed, careful not to wake Lauren, and made my way down the stairs into the kitchen. "Dad?" I asked and looked around the living room and kitchen. "Dad, where are you?" The house was completely silent as I listened for the sound of someone moving around the place. I went out into the hallway and looked at the calendar. There was a small sticky note that read:

Laur and Em,
I was called onto set today so I'll be home later.
-Steven/Dad

After reading the note, I went into the kitchen and started to make breakfast for Lauren and I. It took a few minutes, but I managed to make her some cereal, fruit, and hot chocolate because since she is pregnant, she can't drink caffeinated coffee. I brought up the tray of food up to the bedroom.

"Momma, wake up," I said while placing the tray down on the nightstand next to her. When Lauren didn't move, I started to shake her awake gently. "Wake up, wake up!"

"Hmm?" She opened her eyes slightly and I leaned over her.

"I made you breakfast!" I gave her a smile that she returned and placed the tray on her lap while moving to sit in the middle of the bed. "It's not coffee, it's hot chocolate."

Careful not to tip over the food, Lauren hugged me tight. "Thanks, Em. You didn't have to do that and you have to eat too!"

I reached across the bed and grabbed my bowl of cereal. "I got some."

"Where's your dad?" She asked and took a bite of her food.

"He left a note saying that he was called onto set today, so it's just you and me," I replied. Lauren nodded and I turned on the TV. The both of us ate our food together, just talking about stupid little things.

"Oh!" Lauren said all of a sudden, making me jump slightly. I gave her a puzzled look and she removed the tray of food from her lap, standing up. "I'll be right back." A few minutes later, she came back into the bedroom, holding a few pieces of paper. Lauren sat down and reached down her arms out for me. "C'mere." I laid down in her arms and she flipped over the pieces of paper.

They were fuzzy black and white pictures that looked as if they were
x-rays. "Look Em, it's your baby brother." Lauren pointed to the little blob like thing on the picture. "And that is you baby sister." She pointed to the other little baby and I smiled at the word sister. I was finally gonna be a big sister.

*Lauren's POV*

Emmie looked back and forth at my little baby bump and the ultrasound pictures. She placed her small hand on my bump and waited. "Why won't they kick for me?" Worry was clear in her voice and I realized that she had never been given any part of 'the talk', so she didn't understand. "Do they not like me?"

"No! No, Em. I'm sure they both love you," I reassured her. "They aren't big enough to kick yet and they probably won't be for a few more months." Emmie sighed with relief and relaxed in my arms again. "You'll be the best big sister ever."

"You're the best mom ever," she said in return.

I smiled at Emmie, even though she couldn't see because she was snuggled into my side. "But it's only been a couple months."

"Not to me," she started, looking at the engagement ring on my finger. "Even before you and daddy were dating, I thought of you as my mom. I guess it was because I never had one."

Her tone was sad as she spoke the last sentence so I kissed her forehead and said, "Well now you do." At that, I saw her smile.

All of a sudden, Emmie jumped up and took off running a few minutes later. "Be right back!"

I chuckled at her cuteness as she ran out of the room. "Be careful!" I waited a couple more minutes until there was a loud crash sound. "Emmie?!" As quickly as I could, I jumped up and rushed out into the hallway where she was laying the floor holding the side of her head which was slightly covered in blood. She was sitting next to the small table that was pressed against the hallway wall, mostly for decoration. "Emmie are you alright?" I asked and dropped down next to her, moving one of her hands away from her face.

"It hurts!" She cried and I wiped the couple of tears that rolled down her cheeks.

"I know honey, but you gotta let me see." She nodded and slowly removed her hand revealing the slightly deep cut on the side of her forehead. "What happened?"

"I had this list of baby names that I wanted to show you, so I went to get it from my room and my socks made me slip and I fell and banged my head on the hall table," she sniffled as I looked at the cut.

"Here, let's go to the bathroom to clean it up." I held her hand and brought her into the bathroom, wetting a cloth and holding it to her head before getting out a band aid and placing it over her cut. "There, all better!"

"Thank you, momma." Emmie hugged me tight.

"I told you to be careful, didn't I?" I joked and she giggled.

"You did."
