"In the shadows of the city, where secrets fester and darkness reigns, the line between hunter and hunted blurs, and justice is but a whispered promise."
Estelle and I had always been inseparable.
We grew up in the small town of Riverton doing everything together, even though we had a 5-year age difference. Estelle was my older sister, and the best one I could have ever gotten.
I look up to her so much. She's the prettiest person I know, too. She has beautiful blonde hair, and startling green eyes. But that's not all. She's super smart too, with a sharp wit.
I've always wanted to be just like her, and that's also why I joined the 13th Bureau a few years after she did.
She had a knack for finding excitement in the most mundane places, turning every day into a new adventure.
I, with my impulsive nature and tendency to act without thinking, often found myself in situations that required Estelle's calm and analytical mind to navigate.
Situations like accidentally keying a neighbor's car, thinking it was my cheating ex-boyfriends, and needing Estelle to help talking them out of sending me to prison.
Together, we balanced each other perfectly, creating a bond that was unbreakable. This wasn't the case all the time, of course. There were times when both of us said hurtful things to each other in the heat of the moment, but the truth is, I could never live without her.
It was warm summer evening, so we decided to take a walk through the town's old park. The sun was setting, casting a golden hue over the landscape.
The park was a place of nostalgia for us, filled with memories of our childhood escapades. God knows how much trouble we caused for my poor mother before she- never mind.
As we walked, the familiar scent of blooming flowers and the sound of rustling leaves brought a sense of peace and tranquility.
I felt a sense of peace wash over me as we strolled along the familiar paths, chatting about our plans for the future.
But our conversation suddenly took a different turn. Estelle was talking about her new top-secret mission in the 13th Bureau.
She was trying to tell me something-something important.
"Esther, you need to understand," Estelle said, her voice low and urgent.
"This mission is unlike anything we've ever dealt with before. The 13th Bureau informed me that this is top secret. I need you to promise not to say anything to anyone. They could come after me- after us, if you ever utter a single word of what I'm about to tell you. I didn't want to put you in such danger, but if something happens to me.. This information can't be lost. Promise me, swear to me that you will keep it safe "
I could see the fear in her eyes, a stark contrast to her usual fearless demeanor. "I promise. Cross my heart." I vowed
"But why would they come for you?" I asked, my heart pounding with a mix of curiosity and dread.
Estelle glanced around, making sure no one was listening.
"Because I have information that could expose them. They're involved in something big, something dangerous. If they find out that I know, they'll come after me. And they won't stop until they get what they want. I'm really scared, sis.
They're relentless, and I don't know what to do. They'll keep coming after me, and I feel like there's no escape. It's terrifying to think about how far they'll go to get what they want."
