Part 1

Emily's pov

I'm on the way back home for my sistes birthday. It's a surprise for the whole family except her fiance Robbie who I phoned to tell him I was coming home. Apparently it's a big party with Lizzie's work friends as well as my entire family so it should be fun.

It's so nice to be back in my own car let alone be back in LA, my home. I've been away for six months fighting in Iraq and since I'm a lieutenant, I'm in command of a platoon of around thirty soldiers which is a big responsibility.

I arrive outside mom's house and there's about 15 cars outside for Lizzie's party. I park and take Lizzie's present out of the back before walking to the front door. I press the doorbell once and wait for someone to answer. My legs are shaking from nerves and anticipation like my hands. I hear a click from the other side and the door opens slowly. Robbie sticks his head around the door and smiles "hey Em" "hi" I smile copying his and go inside. He watches me whilst I take my shoes off "everyone's outside at the moment, lunch is in an hour" I stand up and pick u pthe present "I made it just in time then" he laughs and closes the front door. "Robbie. Robbie" Lizzie calls from somewhere in the house "what are you doing? We need the watermelon" she stops in her tracks once she sees us down the hall. My eyes fill with tears and I walk over to her "Em" she sobs and wraps her arms around me tightly. I hug her back "happy birthday" I say and wipe my eyes "I missed you so much" she's crying. I pull away and smile "I missed you too. I'm back now, I couldn't miss your birthday" she laughs and sobs at the same time "well you promised you wouldn't but I did loose hope" she takes my patrol cap off "did you bring something to change into or are you wearing that army costume?" She asks raising her eyebrow "it's not a costume, it's a uniform Ive told you that before" "yeah yeah whatever. Everyone's outside" I grab my cap from her and put it back on my head "lead the way". Lizzie leads and Robbie follows behind me. We go outside and everyone's too busy chatting to notice me "mom" I say and she turns around quickly from chatting to some men. She hugs me tightly whilst sobbing, I look around and everyone is looking at us. "Oh my god Em" she cries "Em!" Ashely screams and hugs me. I get bombarded with all of my siblings hugging me and also my mom "you look so cute" Trent says and i roll my eyes "it's a uniform, it's smart" i correct him making the most of these hugs. Everyone lets go of me and mom cups my face "you scared me too death, I thought something happened to you. What was that noise?" She asks referring to our phonecall we had and the line cut out "a shell god dropped thirty yards away from where I was standing but I'm okay" she smiles tearfull and kisses my cheek "oh Emmy" I hug her again until I get pulled away by Mary Kate "Come here little sis, I want a hug" I smile and hug her "your shorter than I remember" she says and I push her away "okay, now that is rude".

Once I get welcomed by my family Lizzie wants me to meet her friends and costars. "Em, this is Chris Evans and Sebastian. They were on set of marvel" Lizzie tells me, I smile and hold my hand out "good to finally meet you Emily" Chris shakes my hand firmly and then Sebastian does the same "thank you" "so you must be the real captain" I laugh and shake my head "unfortunately not, that one rank above me. I'm a lieutenant" Sebastian nods and looks at Lizzie "your sister is very proud of what you do" I blush and look at Liz "oh is that right? She doesn't show it" I tease. Mom slaps my arm playfully "your sister looks up to you" "yes I know mom, I was joking" Chris and Sebastian laugh under their breath "plus don't slap me when your flirting with these very good looking men. I know you mother. Nice meeting the both of you" Lizzie drags me over to the next bunch of people talking. "There she is, the birthday girl" "Robert this is my sister Emily, she came back from Iraq. Em this is Robert, Pom and Aubrey. Robert and Pom are in Marvel and I did Ingrid goes West with Aubrey" Robert sticks out his hand before I manage to do mine "lovely to meet you Emily" he says "you too. I've wanted to meet you for a long time but Lizzie always blames my schedule' he laughs. I look at the others and stick my hand out "I'm Aubrey. You never told me she was so F I T" Aubrey tells Lizzie shaking my hand. I blush but try to hide it "and I'm Pom. How long where you deployed?' she asks holding her drink in her hands "six months in Iraq. It was...well war so I'm glad to be home" I explain and she nods slowly. I turn to Lizzie "I'll be back in a minute, I'm just going to pop to the toilet and get changed" "yeah that's fine. I'll be in in a minute to get the watermelons because it looks like Robbie still hasn't managed" "well I can get that on my way back out".
