JOSY LET THE one-and-a-half-year-old girl jump up and down on her lap, listening to her daughter's happy squeals. A soft giggle slipped over her lips as Esmee's eyes grew wide as Gemma approached them with a biscuit in her hand.

"Here you go, sweetheart." Gemma handed the biscuit to a beaming Esmee and stroked Josy's cheek, smiling down at the woman. "I'm glad the case is finally closed. Are you actually going to inherit anything now?"

"Believe me, me too", Josy said, a huff of relief coming from her. "Yeah, I'm going to inherit my father's house and the company. Normally Debbie and I would've had to share the inheritance, but..", the redhead trailed off with a clearing of her throat. "I considered refusing at first."

"Why would you?" The matriarch shook her head in disbelief and sat down next to Josy. She patted the young woman's hand, who was the spitting image of her mother, in a motherly way. "If you sell the house and the company, you'll never have to worry about money againᅳ you, Happy and Esmee deserve to finally be happy again."

"I know, and that's why I accepted the inheritance in the end, no matter how wrong it felt for a moment", Josy explained with a slight shrug, a wistful smile crossing her face as she watched Esmee nibble on her biscuit. "I did it mainly for herᅳ after all, Happy and I can offer her a pretty good life now."

"You made the right choice." Gemma said firmly and squeezed Josy's hand again. "Your mom would be so proud of you, baby."

Josy's smile faded a little. It would be nice to remember the time with her mother, to know what the woman Gemma spoke of so lovingly was like. Above all, it would be nice to have a caring parent and another grandmother for Esmee.

Gemma took on the role pretty well, even though she wasn't biologically Esmee's grandmother. But the one-year-old still had Happy's mom, which Josy was really grateful for. The older woman was a real sweetheart, even though she swore like a sailor and almost had a heart attack when Happy showed up with Josy two weeks ago.

But after less than ten minutes, after the initial shock had worn off and the realization had hit that her daughter-in-law was still alive, there was no stopping her and Maria hardly took a breath for the next few hours while she tried to stimulate Josy's memories.

In fact, some fragments kept coming back and even if they were only brief moments or simply a nostalgic feeling, Josy didn't give up hope that a large part of her memories could come back.

And until then, she would keep letting others tell her stories from her past.

"I hope. It sounds like she was a great woman", Josy answered confidently as she leaned back in her chair. "Do you know what Happy wanted to talk about with the guys? That door is closed for almost an hour now."

Gemma just made a dismissive gesture with her hand when she saw the concern flash in Josy's eyes. "No, but it can't be anything bad because I would've heard something about it. Don't worry."
