Hannah had caved in eventually, and she hated herself for it. She hated herself for being such a people pleaser that she'd let him talk her into doing something she was dead against, and was making her so anxious it was keeping her awake at night, just because it made him happy.

She had barely slept the night before her flight, tossing and turning as she lay in the middle of the bed that was so big and empty without Lando. She wracked her brain trying to think if she'd forgotten anything and come up with ways to entertain her daughter on the flight.

She'd got herself so worked up about it that when her alarm went off she had only slept for maybe an hour. She'd quietly got herself ready, gathered their suitcases, and then plucked a still sleeping Isla out of her bed and carried her out to the car.

It was still dark outside as she struggled to make it to the car with her daughter and the suitcases. It was just another part of doing this on her own that made the whole thing so damn difficult. She couldn't leave Isla upstairs on her own while she took the suitcases down to the car, but she also couldn't leave her in the car alone while she went back up to get the bags.

Instead, she had to try and do both at once, which was no easy feat. Particularly when one of the wheels on the suitcase seemed to be conspiring against her and it just wouldn't roll in a straight line beside her the way she needed it to.

There were tears of frustration before she'd even finished getting everything in the car, and she couldn't help but feel it was probably an omen for how the rest of this trip was going to go.

She should be excited to go and see her husband, and she felt guilty about the fact she wasn't. Her stomach twisting itself into knots as she drove in the direction of Nice to get to the airport.

She loved Lando, but the honeymoon period was definitely over. Things only seemed to be getting more and more difficult to manage, and she couldn't entirely squash the resentment that for him nothing had changed. He'd kept his career, he was doing better than ever. He got to go and have a break from the endless laundry, interrupted sleep and emotions that came with raising their child.

Hannah on the other hand felt like she'd lost everything, and maybe even herself in the process.

She had performed a grand total of three times since Isla had been born, and even trying to organise that had been some kind of logistical nightmare. Alice was probably one of the most patient managers Hannah had ever worked with, but even she had begun to lose her temper, as they'd tried and failed for months on end to coordinate with Lando's schedule to free Hannah up for the talk show that had asked her to perform.

In the end, Isla had just had to fly to New York with Hannah, and Alice had very patiently taken on babysitting duties while Hannah did her thing. It was easier she'd said than facing the embarrassment of having to reschedule for the forth time after Lando had unexpectedly found himself unavailable to be at home with Isla.

When Lando had later asked how it had gone, Hannah had been afraid to admit to him that it was the first time she'd actually felt like herself since their daughter had been born. She didn't know how to explain to him that as much as she loved the both of them, having her career snatched out from underneath her like that had left her feeling like she was missing a limb.

Alice had seen it all over her face as soon as she'd come off stage and gently lifted her sleeping daughter out of Alice's arms.

For an hour out there on that stage she'd been Hannah Scott, award winning musician. But within seconds she was back to being Mum. The taste of what she used to have had only made the situation worse. It reminded her of that buzz she used to get from performing, and how far out of reach getting it back seemed to be.
