The healthy things

Instead of doing the healthy and intelligent thing by taking a step forward in their relationship and really speaking about their feelings and concerns, they went to bed. Slept a great night in Paige's bed and then woke up alone.

"Are you kidding me" Paige exclaimed the next morning when she found the bed empty beside her.

Once again, instead of doing the healthy and sane thing, Paige decided the best way to go about the situation was to gaslight herself into thinking nothing happened. They hadn't left together yesterday, weren't seated next to each other, didn't leave the restaurant together, never locked lips, nothing. Somehow that made her feel better even if the voice in her head was screaming saying that she was an idiot but if it helped her remain calm then that was it. She was ready to get on with her day as if nothing was out of the ordinary, ate breakfast and made her way to the bathroom for a shower and there she was met with the visual proof that she wasn't delusional. Her chest was covered in purple ish marks, her hair was still in her ponytail from the night before but it was in a horrific state, caused by both sleep and a set of hands messing with it. Her makeup had grown patchy, her mascara smudged and her lips stained a shade of lipstick she knew didn't belong to her. Her first instinct was to absolutely crash out, crawl back into her bed where she would probably still be able to smell the scent of Azzi's perfume, and cry for however long her eyes produced tears for.

Instead, she actually did the healthy thing. Taking an everything shower wasn't something she did all that often, finding it annoying but today she decided she needed to care for herself. She shaved, exfoliated, cleansed and washed her hair, letting the water absorb her whole, finally at peace in the silence she so desperately needed. In total she had spent around an hour just relaxing under the burning water. When she finally picked up her phone, She had a couple notifications waiting for her.

She chose to only answer the group chat, saving herself some piece of mind but still felt guilty about ignoring her friend. She tried to remind herself of her anger and how she felt when she woke up this morning but all she was met with was the pain of not knowing what was going through Azzi's head. She knew deep down that this girl was special and she knew that Azzi was the type to panic and not think things through. She also knew that they had moved fast yesterday and that had probably freaked out the younger girl but she didn't feel composed enough to deal with the situation in a mature way and ended up opting on not having this conversation over text. She threw on a pair of black shorts and one of her many Uconn training shirts and headed out to meet her friends. As her luck would have it, right as she turned the corner that headed up to Kk's room, so did Azzi. Face to face, Paige could see the obvious signs of distress in her girl's face. The bags under her eyes indicated that she hadn't slept much and the fear in her eyes told her everything she needed to know.
