"I'm heading to work." Said Seungmin as he grabbed his mahogany brown leather briefcase along with his coat and made his way past y/n. Y/n stood up from her seat on the couch where her laptop sat beside her, open on a manuscript she had to proofread before sending it for publishing.

"Wait," she called out and came in front of him. He sighed before meeting her gaze. "Aren't you forgetting something?" She asked with a soft smile as her arms wrapped around his torso, propping her chin on his chest and looked up. Seungmin's body remained tense under her touch. She felt her heart squeeze at this but ignored it.

"Goodbye, y/n. I love you." He placed a chaste kiss on her lips before moving out of her grasp and out the door without looking back. Y/n stared at the car as it reversed out the driveway and drove away until it disappeared into the distance. Leaning on the doorframe, she sighed. Seungmin had been getting distant during the last couple of days. She knew it had something to do with work since this wasn't the first time he had acted out in such a manner. She just had hoped that after being together for so long that he might be willing to share the weight on his shoulders with her. She wanted to be let in too.

A moving truck came into view a few moments later. It parked in front of the house that had been on sale for the last couple of weeks. Seems like it got sold, y/n mused as she closed the front door then made her way to the couch, picking up her laptop and picking up from where she left off.

During the time she spent reading, her thoughts wondered to the new neighbors moving in. Would they be a little family with one kid, newly weds or a big family with kids that drove the parents crazy? The thought made y/n smile. Having kids has always been a dream of hers. She wanted to be driven crazy by crying babies, whiny toddlers, and stubborn teenagers. It may not sound like quite the ideal way to spend your adult years but being born into a family where she was the only child had been lonely at times. Her parents showed her immense love and gave her more than enough attention, but she also wanted to know how it felt like to have siblings, so maybe that's why she wants many children, so that they wouldn't grow up alone.

Maybe getting a housewarming gift would be a nice welcome to whoever moved in and maybe y/n could gain a friend while she was at it. So that was the plan; putting her baking skills to the test by making pastries to give to her neighbors.

The day passed by in a fit of flour dusting the air and eggshells being piled on the side. By the time y/n finished making her goodies, putting them in a gift basket she hand-made during her arts and crafts class the one Sunday, she cleaned herself up. She received a text from Seungmin informing her that he would be working late again and sighed, "Why won't he just- nevermind." Y/n left her phone on the table, breathing out her frustration before exiting the house.

Three knocks sounded on the wooden door and y/n waited patiently for the door to be answered. The moving truck was long gone, only a sports car laid rest on the driveway. The color a matt black with tinted windows. Maybe they were tired from moving in, y/n thought while fiddling with the white ribbon that stuck out.

Deciding to turn and leave, y/n was startled when the door opened revealing a tall man with fair skin and dark hair. He had a tank top on which revealed his lean yet muscular body that seemed to bulge slightly under the door light. His sweatpants clung effortlessly on his narrow hips while a few thin bracelets hung on his wrist. His stance was relaxed, confident but had an edge that y/n couldn't pinpoint whether it was danger or something else entirely.

"Can I help you?" His smooth voice echoed in her head like a mantra. Y/n urged herself to speak but found difficulty when the guy's eyes met hers with such intensity she swore was all in her head.

"Uh, hi?" She mentally face palmed herself for phrasing the greeting as a question. This felt more like the time she had to go on stage when she was little and tell the parents in the audience what she wanted to be when she grew up. She answered an ant and grew embarrassed when the parents chuckled. Ants were cool to her at that time but now they give her the creeps especially when they pile on top of each other and- she cleared her throat. "H-hi, uhm I'm your neighbor, Kim y/n, and I noticed you moving in so I thought I could come and officially welcome you to the neighborhood, neighbor."
